Hi guys I am looking at getting a GPS and am looking at the garmin range either the gpsmap60, etrex series or a 250W. This unit will mainly be used when 4WD touring and exploring new areas so I don't want a street pilot type of unit but am looking for the best screen and features.
I have been doing allot of research but am looking for some opinions from people that have used these units.
I know the 250W is a different type of unit but have found out from another forum that you can upgrade the software to include a breadcrumbing feature.
Cheers

The Garmin 276c is still the best true GPS in the up to 4 inch screen size, most of our 4wding group now have these for serious work.

Its high screen output level and high resolution exceeds the others in readibily , and while it has all the features , including many that others don't have like the ability to directly run off the 12V - monitor the cars voltage and ring an alarm when its gets low - its has the ability to quickly move between two different map modes each with there own setups.

E.G. I use mine with free shonky map set for contours and set with the map fixed with north up, and my own selected variables overlaying the screen like UTM coords. I can then quickly switch to the expensive auto routing map set with map screen keeping the road I'm travelling on to the top of the screen and for this mode I use a different set of overlaid variables like ETE and car speed.

The 250W is being superceded by the 260W (and it's cheaper).

No you cannot upgrade the Nuvi 250/W to record track, the only one in the Nuvi range in Oz to this is the Nuvi 760, Have a look at my GPS webpage and do some more research.

Hi Izey76, like Dougy said you can't upgrade to make breadcrumbs on the 250, the Nuvi 760 is the first of these types of navigators tht can do it.

If your looking for breadcrumbs and also do the map moving thing your are better off buying the GPSmap
60Cx or the GPSmap76Cx. I think these come with the 64mb microSd card but you can buy the 2gig for about $34, then you can add City navigator NT 2008, Shonkymaps, and bluecharts all on the same card. The 76 series can float on water which makes it the best for the boaties

I wish I brought the 276C or the 7200 instead of the Nuvi 760

Hi All,

I have a 7200 and so far it seems to be a great unit. It takes SD cards, USB connection and Composite video. It also has a touch screen. I have it mounted at the 10 o'clock position between the steering wheel and the dash where it does not obscure my sight lines to the dash or out the windscreen, or get in the way of my hand on the wheel. I have connected my lower rear camera to it for reversing. So far it seems to work very well but I am yet to get to really learn its full potential.
