I use Skype, IInet voip and My Netfone voip.
They all vary slightly and the biggest problem is what your computer is doing at the time you are making a call.
Best thing to do is turn off anything that is running and dont muck ariound browsing while you are talking. It all takes CPU power and therefore creates gaps in speech etc.
If you are having same problems with 3 different providors I would look within rather than exterior problems.
If I start browsing and changing pages the voice does break up noticably even on a fast computer and even worse on a slower one.
We ring NZ every week on Skype on my laptop and reception is perfect, likewise on the other two if we use them.
Only if my desktop on the network is using the net does it deteriorate.
My friends use Skype with video to talk to grandkids in Canada with only the occasional minor dropout in the video so dont know why you are finding it bad.
