Hi all. I've been looking to replace my 1998 Patrol. My son-in-law has a 2006 ST-S Patrol. They don't make them. What was different about them? It is a manual 3 litre.
Thanks

Are we talking about the Renault 3L TD aka the Hand Grenade?
Search is your friend. Nissan warranty not worth a pinch of s*** and an engine that blow ups post 70,000km.
Time to abandon Nissan and go for something else.

Post a sensible question on here and you usually get a sensible answer.

don't listen to the doom sayer's, the new 3lt seems to be ok if not a little thirsty, I think the st-s was a st with a few extras,if you wanted a no frills 4x4 to go anywhere then the patrol is it, has a good if not one of the best drive lines on the market, good interior space a good ride plenty of after market bling to put on, and you will get a patrol @ a far better price than a toyota 200 series that has bad fuel drinking problem.
Cheers

Don't listen to the Doomsday Brigade - Just look at the number of 3 litre Patrols out there on the road - so many of them. Surprise surprise - Most of them haven't blown up and have owners who are very pleased with their purchase. But we won't stop those who love to post anti-Nissan unqualified garbage every time the word Nissan comes up in a thread. They probably drive Toyota's and are p-d off that they paid so much more for their car. Must be tooo late at night for me.

Have a good read of the patrol4x4 forums. Almost every day another post arrives with another 3.0 that has gone bang. Second to that post in frequency is posts on Nissan not upholding any semblance of warranty support. An interesting one over there at the moment is a series of GU's with cracked rear door pillars, which Nissan called "normal wear and tear".
I'm not a "doomsdayer". I have followed their
forum for a couple of years and the reported engine failures over that time are stagering.

Pat
Do you know first hand of ANY 2006 models that have 'gone bang'? tonka toy asked about a 2006 model, not a 2000 or 2001 model.

Hi Tonka boy
Took an automatic one with the new common rail engine 3l or a
test drive sunday.
As per "Dirty Patrol" its the standard bulk seller with a few extra's but not as upmarket as a Ti version.
Bit of a
test drive junkie here - it didn't have enough power for me but pulled up a
hill quite
well, if a little noisy as the auto kept it reving at over 3000rpm.
Drive a manual 4800 GU here which never has keeping up with traffic issues.
The manual 3lt is a second faster to 100kph than the auto at around 15 sec this is partly due to the fact that the manual has more mid range torque and holds it over a wider spread than the auto (380/354nm).
Interestingly the salesperson said that there is a current worldwide shortage of the manuals and I'd have to wait 4 months before they have one.
I told him to book me in.

ST-S has the ABS as
well as Airbags. ST only has airbags. New Patrols with CRD now have both so no more ST-S

My hubby & I recently found a 2004 4.2ltr turbo diesel Patrol wagon, and so far love it. We have always preferred Patrols over Landcruisers. We intend towing a 20ft + caravan around Aust.
We had heard through various mechanic friends & family that if you buy a 3.0ltr Patrol, trade it in before 100,000km as that's when the engine apparently goes, or buy a 4.2 ltr. We've also been told not to buy the new common rail 3.0ltr. Don't know what it is, or why.
Despite all the bad reports, we still love our Nissan, and wouldn't have a Cruiser if you paid us (my apologies if I've offended you Cruiser drivers, it's just our personal preference).

Hi Kym
We have both Cruiser and Patrol, and the Patrol wins on comfort and leg room.
I won't list the engine and gear box failures we've had with Cruisers. The Patrol is A1, but will most likely be sold tomorrow, as we can't justify 6 vehicles in the front yard!

We have the 4.2 TD Patrol and find that it does all that is required of it including real off road work 170thousand K now and still going strong. Tows a 1.8T off road van easily but alas likes fuel.
Oh
well can't have everything. We have had it from new and have had to replace the following, Tyres on the 3rd set, shocks OME just replaced, Steering damper which developed a leak.
See rig n profile.
The late model IE after 04 3ltr models seem ok, have met many who love them, most have chipped them up to give that low down boost they need.

Hi Dodge
Our son is so disappointed with his 4.2 litre Patrol Ute. It is so gutless, and he doesn't even tow with it. Then again he tends to put v8s in, and will do so with this as soon as he can afford it.

If only you could get a 105GXL body, with 1HD-FTE engine and matching gbox or trannie and Patrol diffs.
Be pretty much perfect truck!
