This is a bit rough

It's been reported that a Aborgininal Leadership Group was throw out of a Motel in Alice Springs before they had time to unpack their bags.

The reason given was that Whites were uncomfortable with them being there.

Far as I could see, they were a bunch of fresh faced kids from out of town, there to do some life saver training in the local swimming pool.

I'm always weary of media stories, but if this is true it's a bloody discrace.

Regards

Kim

Kim, Hairy will have the goss on this one. I think it's a media beat up.
I know of at least one motel in Alice that I've often stayed at where they are welcome...on the condition that they don't party too hard.
Yes they do tend to put them in with others of their own mob, apparently it works better that way.
No, it's not fair, but I don't have the responsibility of running the place so what would I know?

Ok I've just seen the report on the ABC video. I'm in agreement, it was a bit rough. But what sort of situation brought the whole thing about ?

Anyway, as Richard says, it's perhaps better discussed elsewhere.

What is it with people the last few days telling others that their post isn't related to 4wding or camping?

How many have travelled through The Alice? How many want to know what goes on there regarding local Aboriginal people?
I know I do.

But having said that I agree that we can't have every news story getting a post here.

How many genuinely OT posts are are submitted?

Richard

Ok your not interested, but I am.

If you don't think Aboriginal people are worthy of discussion on this site, then don't read the post.

I've spent a bit of time up around Alice Springs.

Back in 2002, for example, a mob of Aboriginal kids came in from some where around Uluru.

They had a bunch of those dome tents and struggled to understand how to erect them. Went down there to give them a hand, and we had a good time. Plenty of laughter.

Sat round the fire at the top of the McDonnell's Caravan park to finish the night.

Not one other person in the whole camping ground came to join us. How do you think this made the the kids feel the next morning?

If you don't think this is 4WD, or touring related, then I think your missing the point.

Irrespective of all the bull bleep stories, there are a lot of communities doing some good things.

Mullin was able to break away and start an Aboriginal artist community in the west, not to mention Lamboo, Kimberley Downs and many properties run by Aborigine fellas.

I'm not making a political statement for Christ sake!

Regards

Kim

Sorry Kim.

but I think you are "I'm not making a political statement for Christ sake!" making a political statement.. I refrained from using the other word.

I'm one of the biggest lefties you can fine. I'm a slow moving crusader of a socialist system.

I'm not someone that needs to justifier myself by hard luck storie. or go on you bloke type events.

your first post said nothing regarding your follow up, maybe you need to use the written language a bit better?

carn't be that hard.

do you still work for the local Gov?

Next time a 4wd traveller goes into an Aboriginal community and a local tells him to get lost. Then he comes on this site complaining about how rude this Aboriginal person was (or why they don't want wholesale white tourists travelling through their community by getting rid of the permit system), then you will have a better idea of where those attitudes come from.

There are a lot of crappy, blatantly irrelevant posts on this site, this isn't one of them.

Barnesy, what are you talking about? Kim used a unquoted story about some people in a motel in the NT. nothing to do with 4WDiving, nothing about community's, he used the Royal WE, us he was there, and then he's gone, leaves the post open for people to agree or disagree with it. I'm one of the latter...

So be Cool..

Richard I think you need to take some of your own advice and learn to think before thrashing the keyboard for a quick leftist load of el-crapola.

Most people who have been exposed to any form of news in the last few days will be well aware of the story. Most people are also cynical of the way the media will present a story and would like to know if this one is as stated.

If it is factual then it is certainly pretty average play.

The hostel that allegedly kicked them out is the same one that had a bus run out of fuel on the Oodnadatta track.
