Hi,
I received a letter from Pivotel explaining Globalstar is now known as Pivotel.
In the letter and various brochures they acknowledge there is a problem with the Globalstar service and despite launching new satellites there will still be periods up to 45 minutes where there is no service. No mention of how long the service will stay online once it is there. For this below par service they now offer a discount of 50% on satellite calls. Great if I can actually get connected, in reality of no use at all.
They now have an Iridium network and I can get a small discount if I change over. I really have no option but to take this offer if I want a satellite service. It is going to cost me almost as much as the Globalstar phone was to begin with.
At the end of the day I have done my money with Globalstar with no way of getting a refund. The Globalstar service never lived up to their claims. I could almost never get a connection and even today I never get a signal when I randomly give it a try.
Topend.

A bit over critical arent ya?
It has taken up to 15 mins for some of my handsets to get signal with them, but it works fine once this happens. In between power up and getting signal though, it shows no signal.
Why would they give you a refund? did you pay your bills in advance?

No I'm not being over critical. I live in the topend of Australia where the service is a appalling. I spent $2000 on a handset that has almost no service.
I want my $2000 back so I can go with another carrier that has a service.

Hi Topend, we got our letter the other day, Hubby contacted them this morning re that letter but they were too busy to speak to him at the time, we haven't heard back from them yet.
We intend to stay put at the moment to see if there will be any changes because I can't see too many people being happy with the deal so they may be forced to change it (I can always dream). The 50% reduction in calls is not much help if you can't make those calls.
Let us know if you get your refund, good luck with it!!!!!!!
Cheers

Rubbish.
Globalstar have just never lived up to their promised levels of service.
It is clearly a case of misleading and deceptive conduct.
Even the handset is a croc, but that's another matter.
They have taken far too long to acknowledge the issue and are taking far too long to make progress in resolving it. I intend to put in a claim for the money I have spent on a
HF radio and for every cent I have spent with them trying to make the thing work.
They sold the handset and a service which any reasonably person would have expected to work to their "Anywhere anytime" promises of service quality. It never has, and apparently never will.
I'll be taking them to the cleaners. I'd feel differently if they had owned up from the outset and not sent me on a wild goose chase.

Andrew I wonder if they have actually changed name or formed a new company and so isolated any possible claims within the old
shell??
Is the ABN / ACN the same on the paperwork from Pivoltel as the one on the previous company Globalstar Australia or whatever it was called?
Agree with you there conduct has been reprehensible and clearly misleading.

Hi
John, I checked that and the ABN is the same, and according to the letter the "owners" are the same.
