1. Does anybody know if you can load the maps you want on an SD card and use it in the above GPS? The reason I ask is the Vicmap data that is standard on mine is woefully misleading on sealed roads but strangely better on tracks! The re-routing instructions always insist you back-track even when you are in sight of your destination which I guess is down to the Navtec op. system.
2. Are other states maps as bad as Vicmap ?

I guess the answer lies with the fact that people who buy their magellan equipment from overseas can only get software (maps) from magellan. That is, Next Destination the Australian suppliers.

David,
I believe you can. Have a look at this site www.oziexplorer.com. There is GPS Mapping software available through this site and it will work with Magellan. I understand that you can create your own mapping and burn it on to an SD card; you just need the right equipment to burn it to the card.
From looking at the site mapping is available but I also think you can do your own mapping through Natmap Raster. Been thinking of doing it myself I use Natmap Raster to plan my trips and simply print off hard copies at the moment.
However it will probably be more cost effective for you to purchase a preloaded SD card. Go to this site www.nextdestination.com.au they have an SD card that is compatable with the new Magellan Crossover titled DiscoverAus Outback Tourer.

Thanks Roscoe,
I bought it from a mob in Seaford, Telstat I think, about 9 months ago but I have no faith in the hi tech industry when it comes to getting satisfaction without being asked for more money to fix what I consider to be a product that is not of "merchantable quality". By that I mean a product that makes claims to being the cutting edge of vehicle navigation should back it up instead of blaming Vicmap and Navtec , after all they chose these "subcontractors". ....silverback

Is your SD card discover aus and what version. 1.1 or 1.34? The tracks are natmap1.5 i think. I had discover aus 1.1 but got it upgraded to 1.34 and it was much better. Still does some strange things at times but I think all do!

David,
If you need the upgrade from 1.1 to 1.34, it may be for free. I think the deal is that if you had bought the crossover with the old 1.1 then 1.34 was a free upgrade when it became available. Unfortunately this was not well advertised or known and purchasers were not informed. I only found out when I visited the Magellan site at the Melbourne camping show thing and basically made a complaint. They were prepared to give me the new card then and there but had none to spare except for the reps but said it'd be better to follow the correct proceedure

My unit came with two SD cards, one discover aus 1.1 and the other Natmap 150. I then got the free upgarde on discover aus to 1.34. I had to send the SD card to Perth and then got the new one sent back. It may have been the old one erased and rewritten and restickered, I don't know but it works better!
I think the newer units now have Natmap and discover aus on the same SD card.
