Don't use the CD player anymore. We use an MP3 player with an FM transmitter.
Favorites are Knopfler, Barnsey & anything Country.
Mmmmmmmm, now where do we go next?

Gday,
Like Doug said...a stereo with a direct plug for an MP3 (or IPOD) is much better, but if you arent ready for a new stereo a transmitter (a little box that plugs into your MP3 player which transmits an FM frequency that you pick up through your car stereo) is still good because you have no moving parts to jump on the bumps.

I hope that makes sense?

Cheers

Hairy
I said nothing about IPOD's , I said I use a Flash drive that plugs into the front of the radio, no wires, no jumping, no hassle, no moving parts,
with a couple 2gb you'd have enough songs to last 3 days ,
Only time I use an FM transmitter is when I play the selection in the GPS

I thinks it's long overdue for some company to produce an AM/FM radio without a CD player , with just a USB port on the front .
The whole unit would be less than half the size , use less room in the dash, and ideal for smaller cars.

The point I was making was a transmitter is a cheaper option if he isnt ready to replace his stereo and his current one is not up to plugging in a IPOD/ MP3 / flash drive etc etc etc

Like a lot of people will tell you, I listen to a variety of types, styles, categories.

Currently Foo Fighters, and TripleJ.

Old CD's I replay all the time....Trout Fishing in Quebec, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Regurgitator, Divinyls best of, Cold Chisel, Midnight Oil, Very early Elton John, Super Tramp and the list goes on.

My computer at work has literally thousands of songs from Frank Sinatra to Chain to Black Sabbath to Andrea Boccelli.

One thing I am not, absolutely I am not an Elvis Fan!

I have just finished my Kakadu knowledge for tour guides Accreditation course.

There was no question relating to what type of music you must listen to.

My tours are day tours, so most of the time I am giving a spiel on the surrounding area, on the was home, I may put on The Shepparton Talk buy Len Beadel, It goes down a treat.

I've lived in the bush all my life and never liked Country and western, thats my choice, in fact I would rather listen to Vivaldi.

Is that ok with you. ;0)

i thought Led Zeppelin was the best. Yep i just listened to one of their songs and yes i was right. They were and still are the best. Ever seen John Bonham go bananas on his drums? No comparison to any other drummer living or dead.

Mind you, Robert Johnson, the legendary blues guitarist from the 1930's was good, as was Hendrix. They all have front line spots on my playlist.

Oops forgot to mention John Butler trio. Good hippy songs to get in the camping mood.

If anyone tries to play techno or computer music in my car then they are walking home, and depending on how far we are from home, as to how many days they will have to walk for.

or even better
What about a bit i Willie Nelson ( a true Aussie icon) moaning like kermit the frog about his dog's got herpes and he thinks he's got it now to.

The jumping CD really got up my nose so went to my bloke in Toowoomba one trip when I was east and he put in a JVS - I was very sceptical. Now I can listen all the way to Bdv and out into the SD.
I did see Doug & Dusty's new invention though when he was here with the little stick thingie - blah, blah - worked really well. Maybe next vehicle.
Yesterday was a bad day on the Cunningham HIghway so I listened to Pink Floyd - actually Rogers Waters 'In the Flesh' - REALY REALLY loud - the dogs just loved it. Some of the best guitar playing I know, and great drums in Put Another Brick in the Wall.
I like Knoffler, BB King, Clapton, anything bluesy, James Brown, Van Morrison - most of Motown.
But I really like Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Teleman and then there's nothing better than being in the middle of the SD with a really really loud version of Widor's Pipe Organ Concerto. I only do this when I'm in the car on my own though - I am considerate, unlike Ian who forces you to listen to his two CD's. LOL
Ian listens (in his car) to John Williamson and Slim over and over.

My trusty ipod & transmitter have been playing a fair bit of KT Tunstall, Eskimo Joe, Coldplay, Inxs and The Audreys lately.
Oh, and that amazing bit of opera in the movie Hannibal .. . Vide Co Meum is all I know!

I'm not sure how to organise songs on a memory stick in the way that Doug favours, but it's very handy being able to sort songs in to playlists on my computer then have that transferred to the ipod. Then once on the go it's very easy to chose an artist, a playlist, a song etc and even create a playlist as I go.

The best thing though is that I've got over 4000 songs with me, so whenever the whim takes me to listen to an obscure cd, I don't have to worry about whether I've got it with me or not.
That, and the ability to play through virutually any stereo, or plug into speakers, headphones etc. Magic gadget!
Loveit!!

Yes, you won't get any argument from this member either. MP3 and transmitter or if you have a "good quality" laptop running moving map you can run the songs direct from the laptop thru the transmitter to your stereo too.
Cheaper laptops seem to give a tinny sound to the music though so make sure it is a goody.
Love our music, right thru to today's Delta Goodrum etc.
That's what is so good about MP3's etc you can mix the songs rather than listen to a whole CD, DVD or the old tape deck. Remember those folk?
The Wattos.

I must confess to liking good, hard driving rock.
AC/DC, Judas Priest, Foghat, ZZ Top, Baby Animals, Rogue Traders, Angels, Def Leppard, Deep Purple etc and down the line to CCR, BTO, ELO, Kiss, Eagles, Doobies, Aussie Crawl and even Techno such as Bodyrockers, Coldplay and last but not least the Budgie.
