NM Pajero Rear door mounting for Hi Lift Jack

Anyone know what sort of weight can be exerted on the rear door spare wheel carrier. As the NM mags do not have a large hub centre (& capped), looking at fabricating hi lift jack mount. The jack weighs in at 14 kg. The mounting fab will probably add another 10 kg (my fabricated set up will also double as a jack plate)

I have so far been unable to ascertain whether the extra 25kg's will become problematic. Any input would be helpful....

I was thinking about that too, but I think you would end up with fatigue cracking and then .......!.....silverback

There's no factory jackpoints on an NM Pajero that a hi lift jack can be used on - so keep that in mind if you weren't aware of it.

Do you need a hi lift jack for the vehicle?

There are a few reasons why they are not that popular any more.

They are heavy.
Hard to find a safe place to carry them.
There are few places, on today's vehicles, that a hi lift jack can be used on the vehicle to lift the vehicle.
They are very unstable.
If carried on the out side of a vehicle, where they would have to be as they are too big to go inside the vehicle, the moving parts of the jack tend to fill with dust. I have seen them lift a vehicle and then when will not lower the vehicle because of the dust in the pins.

Before you start making brakets for the hi lift jack ask your self do you need a hi lift jack for the vehicle?

It is not just the extra weight on the back of the door of the jack and bracket.
The bracket and jack would have to be removed before the spare tyre could be removed.
The size of the jack combined with the weight would vibrate a lot on the back of the door. This, over time, would cause metal fatigue and cracks or even the whole spare wheel bracket could fall off.

I wouldn't be placing 25kg extended out from my spare wheel, with all that leverage possible. Looking at the mounting bracket and how it is joined to the vehicle, i wouldn't.

As said by others, unless you have custom lifting points, stay clear of a high-lift on a Pajero.

I used to have an NM. While it was nice to drive, it was a bit of a tin can and bent pretty easily. So I wouldn't be weighing the doors down.
