being a bit of a novice regarding GPS workings, i need help to buy one that gives me the city streets or country roads but when i head bush or water gives me a track to follow back and and specific location marks for example if i want to mark a drop off in a creek etc,friends one just goes blank if you go off the marked roads,can i get some specific model because the jargon just goes over my head

Discover Aus will take care of this for you mate. I use it on my Magellan and it has all off road tracks, backstreets, landmarks etc etc. We recently did a trip to
Yalata on the far west coast of SA - an extremely remote area - every offroad track showed up on the Magellan using this software.
Its as simple as loading the software onto your computer, plugging in your GPS and waiting for it to load up.
You can also buy Discover Aus Topo that will give you all the elevations etc... great for when youre in mountainous terrain.

Hilux & Doug are on to it, i have a Magellen XL and they are fantastic, easy to use and then there's the software you can put on them.......good luck
