hi, we had the same question and the answer we got (from a few different people in the trade) was yes even though vinyl was lighter it wont last as long and it gets a lot of condensation buildup because it doesn't breath like canvas and if anything is stored in the annex it will get wet. for that reason we are going to opt for a light weight canvas type as it's not much point in having one if the things under it are going to get wet anyway. hope this helps from chris.
