What is the current
feedback on the updated Coleman HWS. There has been comments previously that the older models had a few issues. Have they fixed these issues with the new one??
I am looking at getting one prior to
Innamincka.
Cheers Kev

Ours is about 12 months old and have not had a problem with it.
Anaconda has them on special at the moment.
The older one had I think a 10 year warranty and the new one has 12 months.

wow
10 years down to 12 months!!!
Something has changed - they must be 1) getting them made from a different aprt of the world (China probably) and/or they have had so many 'issues' they have had to drop the warranty
Wonder which/what??

Kev,
I got a cheaper version of the Coleman from repco or supacrap or something like that for 80 bucks and I reckon it works a treat. I have had a shower under a coleman and this "Black Ridge" works equally as good in my opinion. (Still not as good as my Glind though). There is one difference between the two gas showers and that is the "Black Ridge" is best used to heat water then use it only as a pump and shower to shower under cause if you stop the water flow, the gas cuts out and you are back to pumping source water temps, if this is cold then so is your shower....so heat source water then jump in for a shower and all is good.
Cheers, trevor.

Howdy,
Bought
mine from Kmart.
Check to see what is included. There is a skinny version without the gas hose, shower and cylinder. Will add about $46 to the skinny price if you have to buy them seperately. Used
mine on the weekend. Works a treat. Pity the pump doesn't fit into a 20lt jerrycan otherwise it would be perfect. The 10lt soft collapsible thing is a bit of a pain to fill and lug around. Looked at the Primus as
well. Seemed a little 'cheap' in the construction so gave it a miss. Probably performs ok.

Hi Craig,
Mine included gas hose and shower head but no bottle. Don't know if it is the "skinny" or "fat" version but with my "skinny" wallet I probably got the "skinny" version :-))))))
Agree with the mongrel pump that does not fit in the 20lt jerries, but neither does the Coleman or Primus from recollection. Crab cooking pot fixes this as source water pot and has enough water for two showers (1/4 for me and 3/4 for her LOL!!).
Cheers, Trevor.

An issue I have with using it for a shower is that you need to use potable water. I think that it would be ok when there is a reliable potable water source but what about when there isn't?
Cheers Kev

Sorry Kev, not sure what you mean. Do you mean water is wasted if not all used for the shower? If so, why not put any leftovers back in a Jerry when it cools? OK then to use in next shower???? this is what we do.
Cooper water will do me for a water source for a shower when out that way and I sure as eggs will use my little gas setup for showers when out there. At 80 bucks if this prematurely deteriorates the shower then so be it. I can buy four of these to one Coleman. As always, each to their own.
Cheers, trevor.

Trevor,
It is what Adrian has explained below, Sam wants to use the HWS to heat water for cooking etc and was concerned about using non potable water through it for showers.
Cheers Kev

Hi Kev
Ours is great.
I replaced the cap that goes on the pump that goes on the collapsable bottle with a cap from a 20L Jerry through which I drilled a hole and put a new washer inside. This way I just put it on a Jerry that lies on its side with the pourer down. No waste.
For "non-potable" water (I assume you mean dirty but not toxic) I put a stocking over the pump before putting it into the water. No problems with Murray water. If the water's too rank you wouldn't want to use it for a shower anyway. No taint afterwards with drinking water but you need to flush with clean water out of a bucket so that dirty water doesn't flow back out of the hose into a jerry can.
Only use it when we take the Trak Shak as it's a bit bulky otherwise. Great for a quick wash and saves a lot of gas by pre-heating cooking water for pasta etc. Get a MacCoupler to refill the "disposable" gas canisters.
Adrian

Adrian,
That's exactly our concern about water, but it seems that you have a good method of reducing contamination.

Can more than 1 person fit under the Bunnings shower head?? Cause if they can then I'll be singing something better than "when the saints come marching in" LOL

we have a Primus , (new version ) and like it - the only thing i would change is maybe bumping up the water rate ( LPM ) apart from that you can feed it with very cold water and it heats it easily first go
we use a Garbage bin to hold the water - which we get from the river where we
camp. also have the colman tent :)
kids love it -- misses loves it --- now going away for a week away from civilization and hot showers is no longer an issue :)
