Hi All
Can anyone please tell me the best temp to run my new fridge at??
Its a trailblaza 60lt...

Whilst travelling and the fridge is running from the car I usually set my fridge to -4. I find that after half a days travel, the contents are very cold but not starting to freeze. Once
camp is set up I change the setting to +3. I figure this has given the fridge a head start of 7 degrees and therefore reduces the drain on the battery if not starting the car for a couple of days. I have a dual battery setup, which I highly recommend.

I understand at Minus four degrees (-4) water will actually turn to ice
as most veggies are mainly water, why don't they suffer from 'freezer burn' and wilt ??
Maybe the temp gauge is not too accurate ??

I transfere goodies from the
home fridge at about +4 to the car fridge. I put drinks and meat type goods on the bottom closest to the cooling element and place vegies or other more fragile items in the top basket. That way I find the drinks very cold, probably near ice stage but the vegies ok. The digital readout says -4 but bear in mind that it is at the bottom of the fridge and also that a full load is placed into the fridge so it takes a while to chill all this down. I dare say that any longer would see problems with freezing , just as you say. Before installing the dual battery system I also used to freeze as much as possible.

Hi Jonboy
When we were involved in the food industry year ago, 3ºC and lower were the temperatures that you had to aim for to keep food from bacterial growth. Temperatures above 4ºC, your food will go off very quick, and with some food types, eg chicken and seafood be very back for you heath and can even cause food poisoning.
Stick to 3ºC or lower and you will have no problems.
