Looks like i will be maybe going to barrington tops for my week off( was thinking Sofala but guessing there will be no water in rivers ) . So have a few questions for the experts of this area

There are a few places i want to visit but don't have any clue where they are or whether they are worth staying at for a day or 2

will give a small list so if anyone could help me out , it would be great ( BTW already looked for GPS co ordinates in the Places section - they dont come up for some of the following )

Please remember i have a Jayco flamingo offroad pop top and nissan 4.2TDI so if you think i can get into these areas PLEASE TELL ME.....

White RockCamping area --- is this near the river ? is it nice and do you have GPS co ordinates for this ?

Pademelon Park camping area - is this near the river ? is it nice and do you have GPS co ordinates for this ?

Old Camp - camping area - is this near the river ? is it nice and do you have GPS co ordinates for this ?

did you have any other suggestions for me ( already been to telegherry river )

I have been looking through the net for hours and google earth and just cant seam to find these places .... ( specific camp ground )

Hi Boc,

Just did a quick google search and found a site within the NSW State Forests dept relating to Pademelon and Old Camp giving a description of those sites.
Take a look and you may get every thing you need. Then do a further search for White Rocks. Could be the go.

Regards,
Bruce

None of those locatons are gazetted on the area maps. Are you sure of those locations?
Speak to the NPWS on (02) 6538 5300 for some top tips on where to avoid the crowds, etc. Pick up maps and guides at visitor locations and garages either end.
Barrington Tops Trail is the artery along which everything turns off and is 2WD in good weather.
Many areas are accessible easily in the dry, but it gets a bit trickier in the wet.
Cheers,
Tim

Gday tim , thanks for your reply -- those places are actually listed in the second edition " Camping in Australia" by Cathy savage and craig lewis - amongst other sites of the area -- some are listed in the ozexplore section "places" but i could not find the others there

in the book its very vague as to the directions with NO GPS co ordinates for those camps or near by ones

If all else fails - i will call NPWS

thanks for your reply !!

Hi Ozboc,

I have found several possibilities for you in the Camps Australia 4 book which lists locations including their coordinates. Suggest you purchase that book as I just tried to list several for you but this connection keeps going to sleep on me (satelite) and by the time I post them it comes back with a blank screen and I have to start again and I am getting frustrated by it.

Try Warrabah Nat Park near Manilla NSW, its a great spot also.
Regards,
Bruce.

enail me if you like and I will give you full details

If not - do you have a link to where i can purchase it from ??

and does it cover all of Australia ??

I don't think any of those sites are listed in Camps 4 so it won't be any good

try this for White Rock: 151.468816-32.126808

if that's not spot on, it's bloody close. White Rock camping area is in the State Forest. From Maitland, thru Patterson and Eccleston. Haven't been there for a few years but it used to be one of my faves. I don't think you can get a camper on there because they have those logs around the camping area but you might be able to camp right next to it. The River (Williams or Allyn, can't remember?) is nice but icy cold even in summer.

bingo -

that's got it. White rock is where Allyn River Forest Rd becomes Allyn River Rd. Just at the Lagoon Pinch Forest Rd turn-off. You can turn that into a satellite image but you won't see much as it's thickly forested and only a limited zoom. Good spot though.

Boc the turon is flowing at arround 10ml a day. You can check this out at the waterinfo site then go to the Macquarie system. Even gives you the water temp, brrrr to cold for swiming lol

I don't have any of that gagetry but am going from memory - (which probably isn't a good idea) I actually thought it was just back left, across that tiny little road and then a bit North.

Jeez, I sound like the Mrs giving directions

you're probably right but if not it's v-e-r-y close.

I remember last time we went, there was a huge python about 10 meters from our tent with a great big lump inside it that might've been a possum or similar. The snake didn't budge for about 3/4 days and suddenly it was gone. The kids were a bit put out but the cook wasn't.

in fact, I think I may be right because the river is definitely on the right of the campsite as you look at the map - you have got the river to the left of the campground

Hi Ozboc,

The book I am refering to is called "Camps Australia Wide 4" and can be found on the website www.campsaustraliawide.com

It can be purchased at most camping stors or they will probably get one in for you as my local store did recently.

They retail for about $75 to $80 dollaors for the B4 sized version and is quite comprehensive giving camp site photos and coordinates for each location.
I used it recently for our trip down through South Australia and found it excellant.

Regards,
Bruce.
