Steve
towing a camper trailer, is it better to go by road or get the ferry at
Tewantin and go up the beach? Not been up there for years and thought there was a tricky bit up near
Rainbow

Go up the road. The beach is currently impassable north of Double Island.

Yep, what he said.
Plus mind your tides.
The beach disappears really quickly with the current amount of erosion, mine you its very flat and good going with the tide out, there's not much of an incline so the water comes in fairly quickly.
Most of the rocks on Fraser needed the chicken track a couple of months ago even at low tide.
Enjoy the trip at least the bloody march flys should have buggered off by now.

Brother in law lives at the Sunshine Coast.
Always goes via southern Gympie.
Quicker and easier.

Agreed Brian,
20 years ago, used to go via the beach most of the time.
That way it felt like you were on holiday from Noosa, and almost 200k of beach driving. Great, blew the cob webs out before you got to Fraser.
But with a smaller beach north of Noosa, and not as much window with tides at Hook Pt and the rocks at
Rainbow, it is not as easy to get the tide right and get through from Noosa, past
Rainbow and around Hook Pt in one go, if not impossible.

You're right
John..... that's the way we have always tried to go. But haven't been there for 15 months.... since the storms tore the beach apart anyway.
The good thing is that it will rebuild itself, so at some stage in the future it'll be that much fun again!
Cheers

was up there weekend just gone can go to
rainbow via leisha track at low tide and around to
rainbow at the moment, must be low tide to get around the trees
rainbow beach end is fine with sand over the rocks. road is always easy as
well, but i like the beach, you can keep the concrete jungle all to yaselves :)
