Recieved the local rag this morning and read this article that the future of the Falcon v8 is in the balance because of 1. enviromental concerns 2.rising fuel prices 3. tougher emission laws 4. FORDS new global policy (whatever that is????)...added to this the specs on the TURBO SIX are better than the v8...kw's 315/310 torque 565/551 fuel 11.7/14 k/100 0 to 100 t6 quicker....T6/V8 respectively......BUT GET THIS....HOLDEN are going to produce a 6.2 and a 7 litre V8 engines....and expected to cost $150,000....I guess IF you could afford to buy one then you would'nt care when fuel is $3 plus a litre.....you have to shake your head and wonder if we really do have a fuel crisis!!!!!!!

If I recall they went down this track in about 1986 with the facelifted XF.
It was abig mistake and handed the entire V8 market to Holden on a platter.
Surely they wouldn't be this stupid again.

Remember that as
well Jim, Wonder what implications it would have to the V8 super car scene if it were to happen??.
Cheers Axle.

Um - the V8 supercar circus is not even loosely based on the actual vehicles sold in the showroom. The fords run the old 5L Windsor based motor rather than the "modular" V8 in the road cars.

Hi Phillip,
In last weekends newspapers in
Brisbane was a story about the high demand for the 6.2 litre V8 HSV commodores - a waiting list and up to three months on some models. Demand for HSVs is running far stronger than last year apparently so obviously the fuel cost does not worry this group of buyers. I think it said the average age of HSV buyers was 38 years so its not the older retired guys with a big super payout.
Cheers,
Glen

You also need to consider that a percentage of these cars would be company leases where the running costs are absorbed by the firm and the drivers use fuel cards.

Phillip.
Just as a bit of a side issue. If Ford Aust. dumped their V8 engines wouldn’t Ford be ineligible to enter the Super V8 series?? That would mean a Holden vs Holden event, wouldn’t be the same would it? And here is us in
Hamilton, just spent millions building a street circuit.

I doubt it Clive.
The current series is nothing more than current body shapes draped over running gear that has nothing in common with the variants we buy.
The link between motorsport and the cars we buy is tenuous at best.

The boss of the V8s said on their web site the other day said they are going to invite other manufactures to enter the series as
well. Then they had a photo of the Chrysler 300 might have to shave the nose on it a little hey hahahaha.
Cheers Bruce
