Re Post 58218 GQ brakes

Have cleaned all calliper slides and now relise that all four are stuck on. If the car sits for an hour or so it is fine but after about 10ks they stick on again. I think I need a new master cylinder. Your thoughts please

It sounds like the piston in the master cylinder is not returning the right distance, therefore keeping pressure against the brake callipers all the time, or there is not enough freeplay at the pedal, that will cause pressure build up as well. hope you get it sorted before you go jumping off a cliff somewhere......lol.

I was going towards the cliff idea but I went to the pub instead.Oh well it of to the brake specialist. I'm pretty handy with the things that make it go but when it comes to stopping it's a different story.

A simple test that you could do is drive until you feel them sticking on then stop and jack up a wheel. If it feels tight or you can't turn it at all then open the bleeding nipple. If it now turns freely then you most likely have a master cylinder problem. If it remains tight then it is the caliper.

If it has not had the hydraulic system overhauled for years then then it would not be a bad idea to have it done. The calipers should be ok with a new kit in them but don't be surprised if the master cylinder is corroded beyond repair.
