If the dirt bikers won't watch out for themselves, why should I bother ???

G'day Warfer, Hope you don't get any rain up in there this weekend. I'm off up in the Upper Yarra / Woods Point area myself.

I haven't been to the Noojee State Forest but a friend told me it isn't a bad spot. Last time (April) I was looking to head in there some idiot lit a fire which got out of control and I had to defer the trip.

I would be interested to hear what you think of the area and whether its worth a weekend in there.

Cheers.

I was just overtaken by 2 bikes on the Bruce highway heading north of Calliope. Both were wearing singlet, shorts and thongs and doing well over $1.10
I'd hate to be comming off wearing that.

Cheers Kev

We all share the tracks, when I'm on my dirt bike I worry about out of control 4WD's. I think there are ratbags in every form off transport and these sort of posts don't help anyone, how about we all keep an eye out for all bush users and have a great long weekend, though I'm working so I won't see you out there, Rhys.

What would help is if many people who ride dirt bikes:
slowed down
fitted more effective exhausts
didn’t act as if they own the bush
learned how to accelerate from rest without showering all behind with stones
showed a little more respect to other bush users.

I’ve had, more than one, rider come into my camp, ask directions, then accelerate away throwing stones over me, my camp and my vehicle. You have developed a bad name for yourselves dirt bike rides – learn some manners.

Exactly the sort of thing I was talking about of course "all" owners of 4WD's are perfect, rash generalisations are just stupid and unhelpful, Rhys.

Being defensive and trying to excuse bad behaviour with the plaintive cry that other people are not perfect is not a satisfactory answer.

My comments were not generalisations, they were based upon observation. How many "isolated examples" would you like?

I also note you failed to respond to any of the points I raised.

NB. Rhys: I’m very much of the opinion that people should not be regulated and dictated to by governments especially when it come to the bush but if _I’m_ getting pi$$ed off by dirt bikes imagine how the less liberal people are feeling?

Dirt bike riders are their own worst enemies - you need to clean up your act before government decides to do it for you.

Mike for some reason you have taken this very personally, I did not respond to your points for the very reason that they are generalisations and only pertain to a small number of riders that could be equally applied to a number of groups using the bush. I'm sorry you have had bad experiences with dirt bike riders, the majority are very responsible and are trying to discourage the very behaviour you are talking about. What I was trying to say in my first post was that I don't think it helps to attack one group as a whole for the bad behaviour of a few, it can and is used on all of us at some, Rhys .

Hey Rhys, i'm not joining this little disagreement but fully agree with your first post, from personal experience i have noticed if either the dirt bikers or 4wdrivers are involved in a club or guided tour situation they are very sensible and safety conscious, its usually when you have a few mates out for a burn that things get a little out of control.
