We will soon be travelling from Longreach to Windorah, Quilpie, Hungerford, White Cliffs, Ivanhoe, Deniliquin to Melbourne.
Just wondering if anyone could inform us of the road conditions and any must sees and camping spots along the way.
Thanks Julie.

Julie,

Between Quilpie and Eulo you could visit the Toompine Pub and then head out to Yowah for a bit of opal fossicking. The caravan park out there was ok too...hot artesian baths - some of the bathrooms have no roof so you can look at the stars while you soak. We found a couple of pieces of opal and we didn't even know what we doing!!

From LR, we went via Ilfracombe and down to Isisford - camped on the banks of the Barcoo - great - then the good gravel road west across to Bimerah (along there, nearer the Jundah road end look out for those lines of roadside rocks thrown up by the grader - we found 90M year old small fossils in the rocks - that whole area was under the sea back then). Jundah was 'quaint' - the only town store was a hoot. We liked Windorah a lot (but we might be strange) - stayed there 3 nights and its pretty small - you can camp on the Thompson about 10k east, but the small CP was good. We went east after that, so I'll leave the southern parts to others - have a god one. PS - you'd better buy up big in LR - we found most of those little places south have extremely limited offerings it the way of tucker and hardware.
