How about disappearing on Friday arvo maybe to somewhere?

Ray M (Vic) replied to the question

I'm heading to the Pyrenees State Forest in a coupla weeks, maybe a bit far for some. Info and a map can be accessed from the nre site. The map is on two pages pdf file. I stripped the maps, stiched them together and calibrated for Ozi.

Pyrenees State Forest

The Pyrenees Ranges offer visitors a wonderful mix of natural and cultural history, with spectacular views, rugged mountain ranges, abundant wildlife, a rich mix of wildflowers and historic sites. The main attractions of the forest are the Waterfalls Picnic Area, Governor Rock Lookout and the Pyrenees Endurance Walk. Other nearby attractions include the Percydale Historic Area, the Landsborough Flora and Fauna Reserve and the numerous wineries located around the Ranges.

Getting there

The Pyrenees Ranges State Forest is in the Central Victorian Goldfields approximately 200 kms north-west of Melbourne near the town of Avoca. Avoca can be accessed via the Sunrayasia or Pyrenees Highways. Once in Avoca travel west along Vinoca Road following the signs to the wineries then on to the Waterfalls Picnic Area

ok, the weekend 2nd/3rd Aug. How does that suit everyone ?

I'll be travelling up on the Sat and camping overnight. Those that wish to make it a Sunday day trip can join us at a place to be set.

A simple map showing the tracks and a .map oziexplorer calibration file can be downloaded from http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/themap/files/

An option on the Sat night,

If you wanted to come up on Saturday night, hand your Tent and sleepin bags to someone else to take, we can set it up for you, so its like a motel, you arrive and get drunk, and fall into tent!

Just depends on where we are camped, and if you can find us!

Good luck tryin' to get Parole!!!

Just got home from two days in the Pyrenees. Plenty to see and do. For your info a great spot to camp is at the Moonambel Recreation Reserve (15 minutes north of Avoca). Cost for camping is $5 per vehicle per night. There are flushing toilets but no other facilities. There is generally plenty of firewood supplied. Contact the Moonambel General Store for information on (03) 5467 2225.

You might also like to check out the pub which puts on a 3 course roast smorgasborg on Saturday nights ($18.50 per head).

Hope you have a terrific weekend.
