On my recent CSR run I stayed at the Gunbarrel Laager Vineyeard (advertisers here on EO ) and was very impressed with the facilities and the friendly reception I was given by Gillian and
Malcolm.
So if you are looking for a great place to stop over I would strongly suggest you consider the Gunbarrel Laager.

ditto... town can get a little noisy down there at times, so it is nice to get a few k's out, but the bugger of a thing is you can still get NextG reception at the Laager!

Andrew, that would be because of the mines that all have Telstra service in them...as you probably know.

Ditto from us also. We stayed there about 10 days ago on our way across the Gunbarrel, and the hospitality was awesome.
Great place to stay and the mandarin orchard out the back where you pick your own for $3.50 a kilo is great. We all had a great time there. Not crowded, rustic facilities, but they have averything, including small firepits and wood supplied.
Definitely recommended as a stop before or after the CSR or GBH.
