Heading off into the desert soon and I will be doing the service on the Jack. The mechanical side I can handle, but I'm concerned about any of the electronic "stuff".

Having done 200,000+ kms (the Jack, that is) is there anything I need to have an "expert" look at on the engine management and other electronics side of things? I'm concerned about something that may stop us. My gut feeling says there isn't much they can do, and problems in these areas just happen without any give-away signs beforehand.

Appreciate any advice anyone has on this.

TIA

A good service and replacing anything that "MAY" fail is a good idea. Check out bushes on all suspension components, fully service gearbox, and engine, driveline, wheelbearings, Tailshaft unis, Diff oils front and rear, etc. Probably replace all belts, alternator and waterpump etc, and keep old 1's as spares.

How is the suspension?

What spares are you carrying, and how long for? Spend a little now may save a lot later!

G'day truckster,

Maybe I haven't explained it well, but I was concerned with the electronic bits. I can handle the mechanical side, all the bits you mentioned, just not the electronics.

Spares, plenty already and a few more to get.

On the computer/elect side of things, theres not much you can do but wait for them to die...

You could have them checked they could say all's well, but die on your way home..

Happy not to have any puterized things on my car!

SK,

If you tell us what model Jack and what engine, you might get a better response.
