I just got off the phone to the NRMA.
It's time to renew the rego on the Patrol and I was horrifed by the cost of the renewal of the CTP Greenslip $541 so I rang the NRMA to find out what was going on.
It seems my claim for a roo strike a couple of years ago has affected the cost of my insurance, despite a lifetime max no claim bonus. I expressed my quietly expressed my displeasure. I have heaps of insurance with NRMA house & contents, 3 cars, 3 greenslips so I expected a bit better treatment. I was put through to a more senior operator. She had a quick look at my case and issued a new quote $359. No harsh words I just asked a couple of questions and it is all good. I was a bit upset that I had to ask the questions but the end result is fine.
Just shows, it pays to ask, that phone call just saved me $200. I am happy.

I cant see the tie up between the green slip and you claim for a roo strike.. Unless you claimed for an injured person in the vehicle, whats it got to do with the green slip.. I would have to say the same, hardly looking after you, its just grab for cash.
Duncs, especially for a green slip. i would have walked if i could find a similar low price to show your concern. Did you ask whats the tie up between the green slip and your claim,, cos i cant see it. The hide of them.. Michael

Michael,
I too was struggling to see the connection but on each insurers web page there is a question relating to at fault accidents in the last 2 or 3 years so it must be important to all of them.
The other problem I have is that I get a discount on my comprehensive insurance because I have a greenslip with the NRMA. Any of the other greenslip providers would have to beet the NRMA by the amount of that discount, none do.

I was alerted to this some time ago when I was going to make a smalish claim for some mionor damage to one of my vehicles. The insurance company had no problem with the claim, but highlighted that whoever provided a greenslip at the next renewal would most likely increase it because I made a claim under a policy.

You still did not get any discount for having other policies with them because I have my renewal from NRMA in front of me and it is $359.66 and I dont have any others with them.
Just renewed it with GIO for $314.10
What I have had happen for the last few years is that I get a renewal and if it is not paid by the due date I get a phone call offering 10% discount if I renew straight away so now I always wait.

- so you risk driving around uninsured to get a discount ?

HAHAHAHAAA! Oh Oh Oh Rolling on floor laughing!!!!!!
Oh that was too good and you don't even know what you've done!!!!!!
Your last quote "that phone call just saved me $200. I am happy."
That sounds just like their dodgy tv and radio ads! "with that $200 I can buy the car stereo I have dreamed of"
HAHAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!
But seriously... I am with NRMA, haven't had any dramas, except for one time only when it came for paj policy renewel and they decided to drop my agreed value of $16,991 down to $10,000 even.. then they copped a phone call from me and agreed to change the agreed value to $15,000. That's more like it.

Hi Dunks,
Hitting a roo is hardly an at fault claim, though I can see how they might try it on. This is a constant hazzard once away from the city. I live in the bush so I get more than my fair share of near misses and plenty of strikes too. The bull bar on the cruiser is not there for decoration.
This incident begs the question, are they hoping it will slip under the radar in a busy office or lifestyle or were they hoping you just couldn't be bothered contesting their new fee. Why didn't they increase the fee last year?
One cannot but come to the conclusion that these organisations are trying it on.
Its been happening a bit lately with various organisations.
Perhaps they are looking enviously at the Banks record profits and thinking they will have a piece of the pie also.
It Pays to be vigilant does it not.
Regards,
Gazal

That was my thought exactly Gazal.
What gets me is if they had put it up by $40 I probably would not have noticed but in my budget $200 is something that will show up and needs to be justified.
My point in the post is 2 fold.
One keep yuor eyes open and 2 don't be afraid to question. I did not have to get angry I did not even have to threaten to withdraw my custom. I merly asked why the online quote was $200 less than the renewal I got through the post.
The daughter's car is due next month, I guess I will make another call.

Hi All
Insurance Companies prefer to give better deals to new Customers,
to get them into there clutches, I have found, if you get get your
Renewal Notice, ring them up and ask for a Quote, dont tell them
you are allready with them, when you find out how cheaper the
Quote is to your existing Policy, then you ask them to match your
Renewal Notice you have just received and also get them to throw
in a free Windscreen Cover if they still want your business,
they will do it, knowing that they can rip off some other Policy
Holder, who does'nt bother to query there Renewal Notice.
Cheers
Daza

Just checked the NRMA website for a CTP quote...
If you tick the box "any at fault claims in last 2 years", then the quote is $500.
If you don't tick the box, then the quote is $288
Big difference for something that should only apply if someone has been injured.
This didn't happen when CTP was part of the actual rego cost.
Gary.

Talking about Insurance, we have a Public Liability Insurance for our
Business,Twenty Million Dollars which is mandatory with our clients,
the excess is a bit strange, we have to pay the first $1000-00 for
Property Damage, and only $200-00 for Injury or Death, apparently
they think more of peoples property than lives.

Keep in mind that at the end of each month, the Insurance Division Manager has to report on how much he has increased the profit of his Division.
He can do this by -
- increasing revenue from Policy sales and renewals or
- by reducing the costs in paying claims.
It's up to you, to make sure that money doesn't come out of YOUR pocket.

I had the same issue with a windscreen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Erm Hello? how is a windscreen an at fault claim, especially with windscreen cover.
Put thru to senior manager who gave me the bull that the computer just picks up on the claim, as they (insurance companies) are all inter related re claims, so they all know if you claim.
End result, the loading was removed, but only cos I rung up.
CTP biggest scam going IMO, if fully comp was proper fully comp, you shouldnt need any other insurance. (as is in UK)
Anyway, save yourself the runaround on CTP in NSW and go here, this site will quote you on about 7 of the major companies, in a flash too.
