12volt &240 with engel fridge.

Hi there. Yes, your Engel should select 240v supply when both are available. I do that myself often. My point is this: what genny are you using? assume that both the Engel and the charger are running off the 240v output of the genny. This is a load of say 200W for both. If the genny is an inverter with economy mode, it will cut back revs and so on, but still be under-worked. If it isn't an inverter then it will have to run at 3000 rpm to get the frequency right.
I must say that I prefer to run the Engel off the second battery all the time, and only fire up the genny to recharge the 12v battery. That way, the genny only runs for a couple of hours a day.

Can't comment on the use of generator, but I run my Engel like this at home when preparing for a long trip (or when there's several BBQ's on in a weekend!) -

1. Plug in Engel to mains, turn on. It is always plugged into the 12V outlet in the back.
2. When ready to leave, unplug mains - Engel keeps going on 12V.
3. When returning home, plug Engel back in to mains - Engel keeps going and doesn't drain the battery (according to my battery monitor, anyway!).

The Engel will 'prefer' 240V if both 240V and 12V are available, meaning it will automatically use it. I think this is all detailed in the instruction booklet (according to the missus, of course being male I didn't read it).

Running off the battery is the preferred option, but even off the gennie.......don't let the gennie run out of fuel while it's powering anything......spikes and fluctuating voltage is bad for any electrical device....especially one that has the important cargo inside...BEER !!!!!!!

Thanks for the replies,the reason I run the fridge direct to the fridge is to get maximum amount of charge in battery,for the last few years I have had a trailblazer ,I used to stay for up to 1 month fishing in the same camp & found the 10amp charger used to look after my batterys running it about 6 hrs every 24hrs, sometimes arriving back at camp to find the genny had run out of petol, leaving the fridge off.You can not have the trailblazer on 12 &240 at the same time,if you charge the battery & draw from it at the same time, it takes forever to bring the battery right up.The EU10 supposely will not spike when running out of fuel.

You can leave both connected if you like, Engel will select 240 if avail if not default to the 12v supply.

Like said, best to run off 12v dual battery setup, use genny to charge this up, or go solar.
