I have the opportunity to buy a new Terrain Tamer 9500lb winch (unwanted raffle prize)for a good price.Has anyone had any experiences with this brand of winch. If it was a Warn I would grab it straight away.

g'day ol coot

Mate bought one late last year. I helped him mount it, give it a test run in the bush on a 4wd training w/end. Mainly our fault but we managed to shear off the nut attaching cable to spool (cable got loose accidentily). Best thing about the experince is TT just gave him a whole new unit. He likes it, very happy with purchase. Seems a good unit to me too.

cheers

We use Terrain Tamer products at Mobil Jabiru, So far the products have proven to be quality gear, however we haven't fitted a TT winch as yet.

Cheers Steve.

I fitted one about a year ago, but haven't had the opportunity to use it in anger. The information I had at the time, was that Terrain Tamer specified better gears than your usual Chinese Winch.

The Solenoids were the old fashioned type and I do know of one instance where these burnt out, maybe due to not resting them during heavy winching; but there are solid state replacement winch controllers available now.
