HELP:..... I'm having "issues" with my computer..... most of which we are trying to live with.
But one of the infuriating ones is that when I'm using Microsoft Word (which includes when I'm typing an email text), everytime I type the word "is", then the word "not" is somehow, automatically added immediately after. It's sort of like that blasted "EN" option on the mobile phone when you type a SMS message.... the computer seems to have a mind of it's own.
Anybody got any ideas please?
Thanks in advance,
Roachie
PS: I'm not 100% up on the current ettiquette of the
forum after all the curfuffel a couple of months ago; so I hope I'm not breaking any important
forum rules by posting this question.....

While I can't help with the particular problem, it is very much ON topic.
We all access EO thru a computer and if you were typing a post that said:
Gone Bush (WA) is a raging hetero.
How would it turn out with your current problem????

Bill,
check the settings in 'Tools', 'Auto Correct Options' (on the Word Tool Bar) and see if you have anything selected in the fields 'Replace' -- 'With'. Just a thought.
Craig.

Is there an easy way to find out what version of word it has?

Bill when you open MS Word look on the menu line at the top of the screen.
Click on "Help" Then click on "About Miscrosoft Office Word"
It should tell you what version and if it has had a Service Pack uodate.
It should say something like Miscrosoft Office Word 2003 then some numbers in brackets then SP3.

The reason I asked Roachie, was that I have 2007. I was fooling around having a look to see if there was a radio button or a
check in a box or something that needs to be turn on or off.

Okay, thanks Jon and
John..... ;-))
I followed
John's instructions and found that it is 2002 (10.6850.6845) SP3
I also just had a call from Willie Kempen who pointed me towards a temporary by-pass. If I go to "All Programs", then "Accessories" and click on "Word Pad", I get what appears to be a simplified Word page. I can type a sentence in that page without the computer changing the meaning by 180 degrees.
I have also found that it is not just the word "is" that causes "not" to automatically, but also "was".
It has got me tossed!!!!
When I try to go to
Tools and then Autocorrect in the Word page, there is a message comes up that says "Word has encountered a problem and needs to close".... so I don't get a chance to do any further investigation under that heading.
Thanks for your help..... if you think that you have any more ideas (now that we know what version of Word I have), please let me know.
Cheers
Roachie

Roachie,
In Help, I think it is by memory, or Tools?
is there a "Repair"?
Or if you have the original office disc you put that in and go through
the steps to repair Office. Not reinstall. You will not loose any work or anything, it will just fix any problem that have caused it not work properly.
I still think it is a switch/checked box some where that has it doing it.

Roachie,
As Craig D stated,
check your auto correct options in word. If that doesnt work try looking in the help menu, its usually very good. You can also turn the 'EN' option off on your mobile.... just give it to a kid and they'll have if fixed in a jiffy !!
Cheers

Roachie,
If you are in Worrd 2007 it is:
Click the Microsoft Office Button (the thing wth the squiggly coloured symbol top left on the screen), and then click Word Options at the bottom of the window.
Click Proofing.
Click AutoCorrect Options.
Do one of the following in these Microsoft Office programs:
On the AutoCorrect tab, make sure the Replace text as you type
check box is selected.
Click the entry in the list under the With box.
Type the new entry in the With box.
Click Replace.
Sounds like the sprogs with computer access are playing with your head.
Cheers
Pete

Okay... I reckon I've got that problem sussed out thanks to the HELP of my friends on EO ....
It turns out that when ever I type the words "is" or "was", there was a small blue rectab\ngle appearing underneath the first letter of that word. So, all I had to do was click on that blue rectangle before I hit the space bar, and select an option to undo the auto option (or something like that).
The "was" word was even funnier actually..... every time I typed "was", the damn computer would automatically change it to "whats up" (note; it didn't even put an apostrophe in between the t and the s).
I've still got no idea what or why or when or who etc etc.... but I'll now move on to the next issue.
Thanks again to everybody for your help and suggestions....
Roachie

Check for virus's, using a complete in-depth scan
or
Wanna make sure that the kids haven't "set you up", there.
You can do all sorts of wonderous things with the spell
check if you put it into auto pickup/change mode, and then substitute good words/bad words/wrong words.
Cheers mate

roachie there are two PITA Microsoft aids that should be turned off, one os called auto correction and the other is auto complete.
In word, click on tools>option then click the Spelling and Grammar Tab uncheck the "always suggest corrections" checkbox, then save that or click ok
The click on tools>Autocorrect Options under the AutoText tab uncheck the top tick and it will help out

Thanks Bonz,
I was able to do the first suggestion okay, but whenever I try to click on the "Autocorrect Options" under the "Tools" tab, the damn error message comes up and says Word is going to close down etc....... It doesn't get to the point where I can see what options are available under the "Autocorrect Options" tab...
Strange, eh???!!!!!!
Cheers for your help mate
