Anyone experienced this failure? Anyone got any advice for us?

We have had the computer readouts done by more than one Toyota dealer and they indicate that the ABS module needs to be replaced. We have also had wiring checked by auto electrician .

The module has now been replaced at a Toyota dealership and the problem is still there and the LC is still at Toyota.

We have been towing 3.2 tonne caravan with electric brakes for last 20 months although don't believe this could be a causative factor

Thanks for any info

Bob

My LC100 recently gave an ABS error code as the wiring block for the ABS rear wheels joins just above and in front of the spare tyre. It had been knocked by a clumsy Toyota tech during service and wire had displaced from block. They initially were going to replace expensive modules etc, but finally back tracked it as their mistake and disrupted wiring block

Worth a look

Cheers

Worth checking-thanks. I'm back there tomorrow 0900 as we are booked for Spirit to Tasmania at 8pm. Worst situation, we will take it back in 3 months. They don't seem to have any ideas

Cheers

Hi Bob

My son had a similar problem with his LC100, he was towing 2.5t
and they traced it back to the Towbar Wiring, apparently the
Brake Light wiring caused the fault.

..sincerely wish u luck with ABS unit.

My partner's 10 y.o. Mazda 626 ABS unit gave up the ghost. Was quoted $A3600. for new replacement, managed to find 'working' used unit from Melbourne wrecker for $A400. Thankfully, it's still working.

Scary ..

Daza

Do you have any idea what led them in this direction? So far they have been working off Toyota computer error codes. Is this how they came up with your son's reason for problem?

Bob

He started having problems when he was on his way back from
Broome, ABS light came on at several occasions and he disconnected
his Electric Brakes at one stage, and then he checked the wiring
on the Tow Bar, he found the fault in the Trailer Plug Wiring.

Hope Toyota are not going to charge you for the new module as that is obviously not the issue ?? When they do find the problem I would be asking they fit the old module back up and if the problem doesnt reappear then I wouldnt be paying for it only their time, that will be enough. WHG

G`day Bob,
I don`t know if your vehicle has the same set up as the Hilux but when member Jeff O and I did the Simpson crossing last August the small wiring "connector" near the R rear wheel brake got belted with stones to the extent that it would no longer stay connected. Would have thought that such an item deserved better protection.

Just a thought but worth checking.

Scrubby.

G'day Lorraine (I know Yabby Bob wouldn't be typing LOL).

I had an ABS prob on my old 4.2 diesel 99 model Cruiser. Brakes would work above speeds of 20kph but under this, the ABS would think a tyre was locking up and release brakes leaving you with no braking effect. Turned out to be a problem with the way a Toyota mechanic put the whole axle/brake assembly back together after a bearing repack during the 40 000km service. Took a Melb tech flown up to Brissy specifically for the job to find the problem. We were towing the Supreme up in Proserpine when it started and drove back to Brissy with said problem before it was fixed. It was an interesting 1000 odd k's to say the least.

Good luck with it,
Trevor.

An update on ABS problem.

Toyota dealership replaced ABS module. Problem still the same. They removed and refitted original module. No charge to us for new part or labour. The new module will be sent back to Toyota for testing to make sure there was not an issue with the new module

They then replaced the light cluster and checked car wiring again. Still have the same problem. FYI-our LC model does not have junction box near spare wheel.

Asked them to disconnect brake controller and check the car to van connector but they did not do this so will do this myself in next day or so.

Have the LC back as we had to leave on Spirit of Tasmania Thursday night. Dealership will do some more research and we will go back to them when we return to Melbourne

Thanks to all for suggestions. We will advise how/when problem is fixed
