G'day,

I want to put my new CD player in the radio slot in my 1982 60 series wagon. I already have a CB under that and I want it on the dash. I went to a Car Audio place and they said it was a huge job because there are no aftermarket brackets for these landcruisers. They said they would have to custom make one and that would cost me atleast $200! The usual cost for other cars is $80.

Does any one know any easier (and cheaper) ways to do this, and has anyone successfully installed a cd player in a 60 series dash?

for that money you could get an overhead console.
My brother has CD mounted in dash of his 60 series and I know he wouldn't have paid $200 for a bracket. CD came from another vehicle so stocky must fit somehowNext Trek - Callawa Rd

Cruza,

Sounds like hogwash to me! Have a good look and see if you can make/modify something for yourself. Perhaps you can make something to fit off the existing radio brackets or off the CD player beneath. At the very least, shop around.

I had a CD player installed in my 60 series recently, in the old radio slot. I bought it from and had it done by the local Autobarn franchise. I think they had to make a bracket, however it was no problem for them and only cost me the usual installation price. It was a little difficult as the old radio slot is slightly larger than the now standard size slot. So it can be done. Shop around.

I had a 1986 60 series and installed a CD player in it myself with no probs 3 or 4 years ago. The old radio was held in by a bracket with 2 screws on each side. The new player came with a rectangular sleeve that had about 100 pre drilled mounting holes on each side. Magically 2 holes on each side matched the mounting points in the cruiser. I inslalled the mounting sleeve in the dash and voila the player slid in to the bracket as easily as i slide in to bed after a few bottles of red. Shop around until you find someone who can do the instalation included in the cd player price. I wouldnt pay 200 for a special bracket. Sounds like they are taking you for a ride. Andy
