Hi Doug,
No good unless you can log in to face book.

Doug,

Good stuff.
Not sure if you are aware that when you join Facebook you enter into a perpetual contract that gives them use of any material you put on there. A few photogs around the place wont put any of their stuff up there for that reason.

Terms and conditions state that 'by posting user content to any part of the site, you automatically grant to the company an irrevocable, perpetual, non-exclusive, transferable, fully paid, worldwide license (with the right to sublicense) to use, copy, publicly perform, publicly display, reformat, translate, excerpt (in whole or in part) and distribute such user content for any purpose on or in connection with the site or the promotion thereof'.

Not sure if its been tested in court though.

There is also some talk that they are about to start harvesting and selling personal data to commercial organisations.

I use Red Bubble and my ISP for hosting photos.

Richard,

You're selectively quoting Facebook, which creates a distortion.

It also states:

You may remove your User Content from the Site at any time. If you choose to remove your User Content, the licence granted above will automatically expire, however you acknowledge that the Company may retain archived copies of your User Content.

as well as:

Facebook does not assert any ownership over your User Content; rather, as between us and you, subject to the rights granted to us in these Terms, you retain full ownership of all of your User Content and any intellectual property rights or other proprietary rights associated with your User Content.

Which puts control right back at you it seems.

Cheers

Tim.

Really I couldn't give a Brass Razzoo what they do, I have also loaded a few hundred photo's here on EO in the Places section, I'll probably be dead in 15 years or less so what the heck, I just try and enjoy life and don't let stuff like that worry me. After all said and done, they're only just digital files , not works of art worth thousands of dollars , To me they are my memories and I enjoy sharing the photo's with people around the world, You know what will happen to them when I kark it eh, the PC will be RS, and probably dumped and recycled, at least while the photo's are on EO and Facebook people can see and enjoy them, what's the point of taking photo's if I keep them locked away on the hard drive.
