G'day all,

As most of you well know i went down the road of chip and exhaust. So here are the dyno results of the before and afters.

By the way about 80-90% of all the turbo lag has gone and the Navara now gets up and boogies big time. I will put the EGT in sometime this week.

For those of you who don't know what i put in, it was D34 chip and a 2.75" exhaust with dump pipe/hi flo cat.

cheers,

Looks good, and no doubt drives great. Putting it in perspective, you now have more torque on tap at 1600rpm than your previous max, seems like a bloody good result to me.

How long before it is gassed? hehehe

Regards, Trevor.

I would have thought that the Navara would develop a good deal more than 90kw of power. A small sedan eg Civic develops about 103kw.

Why are vehicles not manufactured with a chip? - surely more power would be a strong selling point

Tazbaz.
There is a big difference between figures at the flywheel & wheels.I gather the honda is at the flywheel.

Tazbar, i suspect Vince is on the money here. If you drove the Navara before and after there is a hell of a difference, i know of a number of Navara drivers that will all agree with me, why don't they chip from new, who know's what goes thru Nissan's minds. I also have a copy from another Navara driver who had a dyno done before and after and they are very much identical, both from different outlets. I could give that Honda Civic a ...........

what you might say , chew it thru the intake and spit it out my 2.75" exhaust!!!!!!!!!!!!

cheers,

Lance

90kXW sounds pretty right to me at the rear wheels, quite healthy I would say.

Lance what % increase did you get? I got 14% with a 3" exhaust on mine

G'day Bonz, i would say at least 20-25%, it has made such a HUGE difference, i couldn't believe it.

cheers,

Rough figure is 20% to 25% loss through the drive system.

So 90kw at the rear wheels converts to about 115 to 120 kw at the flywheel.

Not sure if the Honda figure also measures horse power at the flywheel without ancillaries like alternator connected.

More power is less engine life (if you use it a lot!), so nissan play conservative to give better engine life, and reduce load on transmissions.

Just a hint !
Put an EGT gauge in. Preferably pre turbo. With mods like this and especially towing you can very easily stress you engine and even more the turbo. Most turbos are not made for much performance increase and the bearings usually are not good enough to withstand higher temperatures for long. I have a 5 stage tuner for my truck and never use anything above stage 1 for towing. With stage 5 I get the turbo to glow red. I do not know much about chips and how they work and never really bothered to understand the concept. Is it a tuning mechanism where you lack proper access to the ECM via software ? I guess it is.
Do you have different settings ? do you monitor boost?
Automatic transmissions are also affected by power mods. Tranny temp gauge is also a good idea when you do a lot of towing.

hope it all works for you

gmd,

The EGT is going in this week. The chip is hard wired and has a self adjusting setting. It is a manual gearbox. As yet i don't monitor boost, but will do in the next week or so. Basicall the chip alters the fuel volume and timing through the ECU. It cannot give you more fuel than air.

cheers,

Lance

-ge-mmudl-es, aka DWit .
A 5-stage tuner in your Truck, yet ignorant of chipping, but possibly an importer of inferior gas systems. (unkind and retracted. My bad).
Amazing, Man . Amazing. My envy is boundless.
May I ask the make of your "truck"? MAN, Western Star, Volvo, Grey flier? Or the lowly Hino or Isuzu? (Not a Mack - surely- gasp!!)

Good to see that you have an editor these days ole buddy. One step at a time, Old friend: one day you'll make it; maybe.
Might even buy you a beer in a dusty pub one time . But if the past mimics the future, not much chance of that is there -consonants ?
Meanwhile, best wishes, and enjoy our country, as shall we.

Told you so.
Even though we did not go for the chip, the bigger exhaust, ect, helped eliminate our Navara's "turbo lag"....
Nissan dealer could not get rid if it, then again he may not have wanted to !

Well done mate !
Cheers
