Hi can anyone tell me how often the timing chain needs to be done in the GU 4.5 petrols? I believe they have a timing chain (which apparently lasts longer than a belt type) but can't find anywhere in my service manual where this is stated. Also if anyone has had it done, what was the cost - I am expecting it to be expensive!!!

Timing chains normally don't have a specified interval to be replaced the way that timing belts do

Normally they are only replaced (along with tensioner & guides & sometimes gears) when they become noisey (rattle)

I am not experienced with petrol Patrols but would expect that you should see at least 200,000 klms before this would be needed

Cannot speak about Patrols, but Toyota 22r motors usually do about 300000ks before replacement. Apparently they give you plenty of warning as they get quite noisy(like a machine gun)
