I've an interesting/frustrating problem with my 2006 gu after going fishing on the w/e - no, I didn't even catch any!. The sub tank warning light is on and the gauge moves up to sit in empty when I turn on the ignition (even though the tank if full) and the fuel transfer pump does not work. In addition I've noticed none of my tail lights work. I've checked fuses and fusible links and checked for any obvious break in the wiring - all to no avail. Any suggestions apart from the obvious - get a tojo?

Had a similiar problem with my GU years ago, that was fixed by disconnecting both batteries.

Good Luck

Thanks Michael.
Had read that on a previous thread, so disconnected the batteries for a couple of hours - didn't work.

Could be an earthing problem. Do a search on here or on Patrol4x4.com for earthing issues with GU's.

Agree.

Run an extra earth lead from a good clean point on the engine (or negative post on the battery) to the body. Then another from the body to the chassis. And another from the chassis to the towbar if fitted. Prior to doing this, you could run a 'test' by connecting a jumper lead between the battery negative post and the body to see if the problem disappears.

Just,

I had a similar prob with my sub tank. The light was on and it wouldn't allow me to use it (not good if your out there and need it).

I took it to the local dealer, he located a white plastic box about the size of a cigarette packet, which is located under the console (passengers side). If you reach underneath you will find it. From memory it had "Diesel" written on it or something similar, he disconnected it for about 30 secs, reconnected and all good.

It did happen a few times after that and I was able to get it going again, hope it helps.

Mick

PS My taillights were OK though

The problem will be earthing somewhere. Similar thing happened to me ages ago but in my case when ever I turned my spotties on the main tank gauge would drop to empty. I rewired the spotties and the problem went away.

Think about what else you run while the car is on?
