Most of you will know I have had some on going tuning problems with my manual 98 Jack. Mostly either reving its head of at idle or stalling and running very rich at low rpm which was doing nothing for my fuel economy. Been to several mechanics with no joy. I have had several goes at it and it would run great for 24 hours and then play up again. My Normal mechanic reckons its female for sure lol.
Anyway a friend recommended I take it to a race car engine builder and tuner. Adam Cope Mechanical in Bathurst.
Amazing result not only cured the several small problems it had but now I have to be careful to not smoke up the rears lol.
Going to take the 03 down to him next and see if he can improve the economy any next week.
Cheers Pete

Couldnt wait any longer to fill up. Only done 138ks, 100 ks open road at 100 to 105 and 38 arround town. First click 13.78 l, couldnt believe it so pulled the trigger again and got one more litre into the tank . That 14.78 l to 138ks, I get 10.71l/100 or 26.3 mpg for us old farts. Unbelievable for a 2 ton petrol v6 with bullbar and spotties
Would be worth the trip for anyone looking to improve their running costs.

Goodday Mate,
I love it when its being good. lol Brings out the young hoon in me.
The problem now is improving the shocking fuel economy of Sals 03 Nullarbor. Its hard to believe the manuals are so good yet the autos are so bad. She has already put and ecb alloy bar , spotties and a uhf on it. I paid for the hd shocks.
Looked at Prados, missed out on a deceased estate 97 with all the fruit. Lived a bit close to the beach for my liking though.
You know the drum, look at doz of heaps. The 03 we brought is pristine, did not think it had ever seen a dirt road, but did find a bit of mud in a crevice the other day. Only had 76000ks plus full service history, back seat never sat in etc
Went all the way to wyong to look at a low k immacualate Jack, I was a bit suss as the photos where poor quality, got their and its covered in scratches and oil leaks. Reckon the speedo was dis connected for a long while, never even took it for a drive.
You are most likely better off keeping yours as it has all the improvements on it allready and it is a good one.
Mind you we could have sold the Paj four times over, but the ks where very low for age.
Have a good one Pete

Hi Mick,
This chap is not big on small talk, but from the invoice Scope test vehicle, Remove and clean iac motor, reset and refit iac motor, clean throttle body, clear dtc s. Test drive( 3 times according to his wife).
Total bill was $239.50.
Since then I towed my 4.2 m boat to lake Lyal and back and it used 13/100. This is a 1.5l/100 improvement. Boat has no screen and a cover over it to aid airflow.
I am having trouble staying at 100.
Other problem is swmbo keeps borrowing it lol.
Cheers Pete

G'Day Pete.
Would love to know what the mechanic did to get that much of an improvement.
How ever the last time we really did an (accurate )fuel consumption test was a couple of years ago during 4000 trip .
The jack was chocka block with everything for a family of four ,including large roof rack chockers as well . Mostly Highway of course, but a lot of small trips too. Air con on all the time as it was January. And we weren't pussy footing around either as we pushed for time if you know what I mean ;)
Fuel consumption was 16.7 litres per hundred kilometres. Not bad at all I thought.

Cheers BoldJack

Boldjack Hi,
I always check my fuel consumption on every refill. Tells me what the car state of tune is.
See my reply to Mick above for details. The 98/99 are a lot lighter then the wide tracks with free wheeling hubs and mine is a manual. Sals 03 feels a lot heavier to drive and to pull up under brakes. Still have not taken hers down yet as he said to get our mechanic to give it a full service before he looked at it. The 03 economy is gradually getting better, may have done a lot of short trips in past, .
Also my economy figs are on 95 premium. I have noticed Brad on the Jack forum only uses 98, and he always gets good figs.
That fig is ok if you had a roof rack loaded up. The old Paj use to do 15s with a load and the canadian on the roof and it was a manual.
Its the arround town fig that was hurting on the 03( 18 to 22)
Cheers Pete
