This has been a regular topic on the Ford Forum as well as the ball joints failing!
Not always high mileage either for the brakes. Some are as low as 30,000 km. Some Falcons are affected too despite Ford's assurances. the dealers will replace sedans hoses if there are signs of rubbing. Check 'em out.
Ball joints have broken off in some cases so be aware. Haven't got the Ford Forum address handy but a Google search will get it.
Aah, here tis.

This has been in the papers for weeks about brake line failure. The issue is also happening on ba falcons and yet they are not doing a recall on them. They will check and inspect/replace with new hoses if required BUT if you dont get your ba serviced by a ford dealership then badluck, you wont know of the problem unless you happen to read about it or your brakin is reduced dramatically. The law should jump in here and make FORD recall the lot of them before some one is seriously injured or killed. They state you still have braking as they have independent lines etc front/back. I have driven a vehicle where there was brake failure to the front and tell you, it scars the sh#t out of you as the brakes are nowhere near effective especially when its the front ones that stop working and your relying on rear drum/discs to pull you up. Lest just hope no one is injured or killed as Ford will have some serious questions to answer. There have been reports over numerous weeks in the telegraph in fridays drive section of this with people writing in saying they have had failure with BA falcon brakes due to brake lines failing..........WHG
