Hi,

Just a quick question re the satellite acquisition screen on the Nuvi 5000.

What is the purpose of the sun, moon and a red dot circling the satellites.

You have got me there, no idea at all. My garmin does not have this showing.

I do have a decision to make at the moment. Do I pay around $100.00 for a garmin map update or purchase a new unit at somewhere around $150.00 complete with new warranty and a free update next year ?

Seems the actual unit is worth very little.

As you haven't stated which unit or map version you own, it can be hard to say which way to go! Which unit would that be for $150.00??? Sounds like if you buy a map upgrade now, you are going to need it next year as well??? In that light, maybe the $150 is the cheaper way to go???

Hi - suspect the sun and moon icons are meant to represent the location/direction of these objects relative to your current position. Not sure what the red dot is.

Cheers

The red dot is the direction you are currently travelling. The satellite page is displayed as a "north up" reference, therefore this indication will give you an orientation of the satellites in the sky relative to your direction of travel.

get a new one with the latest map and keep the old one for spare. Or give it to me. Or sell it to me for thirty bucks.
