I am installing an Eberspasher Diesel heater in our caravanvan and we would like to install it under our bed and I am wondering how noisey they are if it would be to annoying under our bed, if so I was thinking of installing it under the floor.

I heard an Eberspacher Airtronic unit running up at Karajini one morning last winter. Sounds like a tiny jet engine whining away - on a quiet morning, it was quite intrusive across the
Dales campground - campers close by would have been a bit put off I think. Webasto do one too, but haven't heard that running. Main source of noise is the exhaust port - think I saw somewhere that they can be installed in fashion that deadens some of the exhaust port noise - must be a muffler of sorts. I think they are normally installed on top of the floor, inside of a van cupboard - doubt if anybody would be going to sleep with one running though.

The ones that are noisy are those where the owners were too mean to spend the little extra and fit an exhaust silencer.

Well I have a webasto heater and the cost of the muffler was $41. The cost of the heater was $1600. I don't think anybody who spends this amount could be considered mean.
To answer the original post
mine makes some fan noise when starting and then drops back to a easy level to live with. Plenty of motorhomes have them fitted under the bed.

Chris, we have a Webasto in our Karavan that has a duty of heating the water in the HWS - 18 litres of storage. The water isn't directly heated but has a recirculation tank. The mix that goes through the heat exchanger is recirculated through a water to air radiator, like the old Holden hot box which is particularly effective in heat transfer. If you can have a dual system it can overcome two issues.
You can get a Webasto space heater for motor homes and they heat bigger volumes of air.
The noise mentioned above isn't particularly intrusive but is akin to a distant jet starting. The smell near the exhaust is a carbon diesel smell and there is a sort of muffler in the exhaust.
