I am interested if other owners of Jayco Expanda poptop's have had issues with the roof of the van drooping and thus water not draining from the top? If so how have Jayco responded to rectifying this problem.

Doc
A common roblem with all Jayco pop tops - not just the expanda. I had a new roof put on my van after a hail storm. 15 months later the roof had not only become a swimming pool but the sealant had perished and the water seeped through leaving a lovely green mould along the joins in the ceiling. Water had aslo dripped onto some of the interior woodwork staining it. Jayco's response:- "We only warrant our sealant for 12 months, it is the responsibility of the owner to check it regularly."

Our previous van was a Jayco freedom Pop top van (fibreglass 16ft) which we purchased new and we had the same problem as you. Within the first 12 months of purchase we were so worried about it that we phoned the head office of Jayco in Melbourne and informed them. (This no. is in your Jayco owners handbook)

At the time we were about 4 weeks into a 6 month trip and were headed for the Red centre and beyond and couldnt get it done.

The person we spoke to assured us that we would be able to have it done at no cost when we returned home even if it was out of the warranty period so we recorded details of this conversation.

By the time the work was done it was about 18 months old as we booked it in to the service centre at our local dealers when we returned, explaining the situation to them at the time.

End of story : Jayco replaced the roof with a reinforced one which was sent from Melbourne to Nowra South Coast , at no cost to us.

We traded it on a new Sterling Outback full van some 6 months later because we were happy with Jayco's attendance to repairs under warranty but havent had anything except a few minor probs with it. It is now just out of warranty.

Hope this helps if you are still within the warranty period.

Regards,

heather
