Hello all,

Just a quick question about Firestone coil-rite airbags. After reading previous posts on the forum about airbags, I contacted Truck Spring in America to get a quote for my GQ Patrol.

They advised they have a kit (4129) that fits a stock Patrol, but don't do one to suit my 2" lifted vehicle.

I have seen mention on an Australian website, 2" spacers for airbags - I presume this is how others with lifted GQ Patrols manage to fit airbags (ie the airbags don't come in different lengths)?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,
Jezza.

Hi Jezza
I went into Outback 4x4 last week and enquired about fitting Firestone bags for my 80 series with a 2" lift and they never mentioned any problems, so will be interested to see your replies.
I went for Firestone as they seem stronger than the Polyairs ?

I wouldn't have thought the longer springs would effect anything. My understanding of how the air bags work is that when inflated they act to fill the gap between the spring coils which in turn makes it more difficult for the spring to compress giving better load carrying characteristics.

This is opposed to actually pressing on the lower and upper bumpstops to aid the spring compression rate.

I guess with longer springs not all of the coil gaps will be 'filled' by the bag but to my way of thinking this shouldn't effect too much.

I have coil rites (poly airs) in my Jackaroo with 2" lifted OME springs and the bags work perfectly even though they don't touch the upper bumpstops. The have a 1" poly-type disc that sits on the top, however this is for protection of the bag as opposed to a spacer type arrangement for the bag to press against. This is what what I understood from the directions I received when I got them from Truckspring.

Hi Jezza,
I have the coil rite air bags in my GQ patrol - which has ARB springs so they have a 2/2.5" lift.
There are 2 different models - one for cars with a 2" lift and ones for standard springs. they basically have a spacer that goes on the bottom of the sprint mount which the bag sits on so it inflates and hold the car at the right level.
I rang the main importer, the main web site it below.
http://www.airbagman.com.au/
They gave me the local WA supplier and the correct model for the suspension lift.
They are excellent air bags. The coil rites use proper air fittings.
I fitted them myself with help - not hard, just need the tools.

hope this helps
regards
Bryan

Hello Jezza,

I have them fitted to my 08 Prado. My 2" lifted springs are no longer than my original springs so it makes no difference. I had these bags fitted to my previous 05 Prado and they have been great. I used Polys in the past and these seem better to me. I think you should think about buying them from an Australian outlet so that you can have the benifit of the warranty.

Regards

Garry

If your Prado or any car has a 2" lift then the axle is 2" further away from the chassis , the spring is holding the car 2" higher and you must need longer bags to fit in the springs . You say the springs are the same length , they may be , off the car but not on the car
