Hi all,
While camping over the last few days, mate asks me for coords so he could find us.
Sure, I just press the "where am I " icon and it gives me the coords of where I am, great.
But then I tried to get coords for a road intersection which I thought would be more practical to give him and I just can`t seem to retrieve any for a particular point.
He has a tomtom and says he can click a point and the coords are displayed.
Is it possible ?
I`m pretty sure I`ve gone right through the menu`s.

Its possible, but I can only do it with a lot of screen presses.

(1) From main menu, press "View map"
(2) Press screen to get to "birds eye view" rather than "perspective (rear of car) view"
(3) Drag on map till the arrow cursor points to the selected intersection
(4) Press "Set Loc."
(5) Press "Back"
(6) Press "Menu"
(7) Press "Where to?"
(8) Press down arrow
(9) Press "Coordinates

and read off the numbers.

If anyone has a better way I would be interested to see it.

It is easy to do on the Garmin units designed for handheld use. I think the troble is that Garmin have tried to make the units designed for vehicle navigation simpler to use but in the process a lot of versatility is lost compared with the eTrex family.

The bad news is that this only works if the unit is in "GPS Off" mode (otherwise "Set Loc" does not appear).

The good news is that steps (7), (8) and (9) can be replaced by

(7) Press and hold the top left hand corner of the screen (which should have a red X on top of the signal strength bars)

The co-ordinates should then appear at the top of the screen.

Yes, that works joe.
But it seems that it will only work when you are indoors without sattellite reception.
When you have reception the set location tab is`nt there.

Yep, and more bad news is that when I was camping I could`nt get "gps off" mode, as it won`t lose reception.
