They were OEM fitment on LR Defenders, maybe still are.
The AT came out way on top in a very well conducted Tyre test in the UK Land Rover owners mag. (LRO) Beat BFG AT by some margin.

The test may be still around online somewhere.

general tyres were oem fitted to GMC ambulances in victoria
several years ago . there were copmlaints of poor handling
from lots of staff ,they seemed to be soft in the walls and eventually we switched to bridgestone ,bfg , and michelin a noticable inprovement in stability .
cheers mechpete .

Look around and youll see which tyres sell in Australia.
Landrover aren't going to dump on their OE tyres .Check on some of the 4x4 mag websites.

Neither do Toyota, but just about every toyota owner replaces the OE tyres with something else once the OE tyres are stuffed, if not before.

Warren,

Have been doing a bit of research with a view to getting a cheaper AT tyre predominantly for road use.

Have a look at Electra Ironman, Silverstone, Hercules, Jetzon and Eldorado (Several of these companies have the same tyres produced in the US and just badged for each company.

Check out the Chapel Corner Tyres website

TerraTrac by Hercules are made in Taiwan ,excellent all round tire for a reasonable price , had em on the 80 series , now have bfg on the rodeo and big chipping on the front inside 50mm tread , recon the bfg s are over priced and over rated so going back to the TerraTrac.

Warren,

I have been running General Grabber AT2 tyres on my 100 series for about 14 months ( 65000 klms ) and they have worn and behaved very well. Mainly bitumen and unfortunately minimal offroad use, although they did perform well in all conditions.

I would recommend them for the price, but will probably replace them with BFG or Coopers next time.

Regards
Rob M.
