I have a mate up there at present taking some tourists around in an Ocka (How do you spell Ocker?) I spoke with him last Friday morning and he said there were tourists everywhere , the Kalumberu road was so rough the corrugations cast their own shadows at midday.
I was up there April/May and it was rough then.
I think if you stay on the main tracks you should not go more than an hour or two without passing a fellow traveller - so providing your vehickle is in good nick you should be OK - ENJOY!

Each time I've been there, I've been amazed at how the Britz campervans manage to maintain their 120km/h on the Kulumburu road.
Everyone else seems to go much slower.

Wayne,
Went there in a Suzuki in 1986. Roads were corrugated then but there was no one around. Saw maybe 5 vehicles in two weeks. Got permission to drive over to King George Falls on Carson River Station. A hard drive but well worth it. Go to my website www.kempen.id.au click on 4x4 and then click on The Far North Kimberley and have a read. Things have changed a bit now but the roads are still the same and there are probably more places to access. Enjoy

Wayne,
I have just returned from the Kimberley and there were heaps of people heading for the falls and Mitchell plateau area. the Kalumburu road was graded in early August and should be in reasonable condition still. The grading on the GRR has been leased out to private enterprise and is not as good as the old shire operators. A bit of a lick and a promise in parts. Around Imintji the main roads is upgrading a 23 km stretch of road so there could be delays there.
Go for it Wayne
