Can anyone help me out with any assistance on dog friendly camp sites in WA.

looking at going both North and South in WA and looking for advice from people who have actually gone to a campsite without any dramas.

Have looked on the web and the read articles etc but nothing beats the knowledge of someone who has been there/done that...

Would be towing a camper trailer and would prefer parks/homesteads especially around the north west although esperance still sounds good.

Dogs are too old now to be left alone so have to come along whilst they still can.

Thanks

Pembytom

The CP at Shark Bay is the Blue Dolphin, they are very good with dogs, have stayed there on a few occassions (with out a dog) but will probably be taking our new dog with us next time.

Pembytom,

Camping in the WA bush is a problem with dogs, especially around National Parks or conservation areas etc. Heaps of dogs die over in WA every year, after eating dingo baits.

For instance, around Durba Springs and the Calvert Ranges on the Stock Route, there has been many pets poisoned.

Willie.

Hi Pembytom
We travelled the WA coast a few years ago with two dogs.
The only areas we had trouble with, was Kununurra (all van parks hated dogs, so go to Wyndham instead ! the van park there prefered dogs to kids.
Exmouth area, and the coast from Perth northwards a couple of hundred klms was another difficult area.
We free camped as much as we could. "Camps Aust Wide" is a good book to have.
Cheers
Neil

Hi there. Almost exactly 12 months since we did the NW of WA. We found that Lake Argyle (Tourist Village Caravan Park) and Derby (Kimberley Entrance) were fine for dogs; Broome is a disaster - only possible one we found was Roebuck Caravan Park around 20km out of Broome at the roadhouse (NOT Roebuk Bay Caravan Park which don't take dogs), and Port Smith Caravan Park, on the road South from Broome, which was fine. Further South was less problematic. Ningaloo Homestaed at Exmouth; Blue Dolphin at Denham; Greenough CP at Geralton.
Our greatest problem was the bait issue, and, even more so, the tick problem. We had REAL problems with ticks - dozens of the blighters, despite Frontline and regular checks.
Not too many kennel options either, tho we found kennels at Kununurra, Derby and Exmouth ('day care' at the Council Pound)
Hope this helps

Whilst not traveling with a dog we do a lot of camp hosting and gather info. Around Esperence seems to be a problem with dogs although you can camp with dogs on the beach between the town and Cape Le Grand before you get to the national park. Saw lots of frustrated dog owners there.

At Pemberton dogs are allowed at the Arboretum camping area as it is a reserve not a national park.
Maybe that is the clue, look for non national park camp areas but don't let your dog run loose unless it is immune to 1080 poison. In the south 1080 is every where in the bush areas. Works good on foxes (and dogs and cats) but does not hurt native animals.

not sure if this is what you are looking for but have a look at www.caravanandrv.com.au as they have a comprehensive listing of pet/dog friendly caravan parks in WA and rest of AUS too

We travel with our dog all year round in W.A.
We camp free (Camps Australia), in State parks (eg Nanga - Lane Pool), camp on stations and stay in caravan parks.
We have never had issues with baits - we keep a close eye on our dog.
The two towns we cant stay with our dog are Lancelin (so we stay at Cervantes) and Broome (so we stay at Barn Hill). I'm sure there are more.

We use the Traveling with Dogs book and also ring around if there are none listed for a particular town.

have fun
