Has anyone with a LC100 series V8 Petrol ever used the Hiclone fuel saver device, if so dose it work, and what difference did you notice when using it, or is it a the old Snake-oil salesman con?

No they don't work mate. But if you wan't to try something get a 12 volt bilge blower and hook that up, that will also swirl the fuel air mix and maybe boost up the pressure a fraction.

Go to local
shop , buy can of soft drink , drink till empty , go
home and go to kitchen drawer and find scissors , cut can so have flat sheet of alloy , draw circle the diameter of air intake hose post air filter , cut tin so have circle ,, draw lines to create windmill , cut tin and bend so have a minature windmill , undo air intake hose post air filter and insert your minature
wind mill [ this part is critical and model specific ,its what you pay hiclone all the $$$ for] exactly 32.5 bees dick widths from the 3rd clamp after the oxygen sensor ,,,,,,, Just saved $300 odd , and quenched your thirst ,,,, fuel saved over 1 year or 25,000klm will be just enough to buy another can of soft drink and you can repeat the exercise every year untill the actual "swirl " is so intense that vehicle wont use any fuel at all except at start up,,,,,,,,,,

I have two in the Patrol, not a 100 series cruiser, but I found that the car ran smoother and used less fuel and also the turbo spooled in about 400rpm earlier.
Same deal with a mates Landrover Defender Extreme.
Many naysayers, MANY MANY naysayers, but Hiclone offer a money back guarantee which I checked out and didnt use.
Give it a try, and if it doesnt work take it back and get your money back.
A reputable 4WD mag did a controlled
test and found some improvements also.

Bonz, you sure any 400 revs earlier wasn't the demands of the chip you put in? I can't see it would be some shaped plastic. There is an air spinner standard in the inlet of a LC to spin out dust to a catcher in the air cleaner.
Mine spools up quicker without the restriction. A saw dispensed with it neatly

John, It was fitted in Mortlake, driving over there, the turbo boost arrived around 1800rpm, driving
home around 1400rpm, no chip about that, also noticed an immediate before and after imprivemnt at idle, which was noted and commented on by the other driver when I moved the Patrol so he could get his fitted.
Fisho, the
test was done by 4x4 Australia. A vehicle run over a set course, fitted one Hiclone and ran the same course, then fitted a seconed and ran the same course. Improvements were noted and reported.

That air spinner is also present in 80 series LCs , cut ours out when fitting the snorkle , revs dropped due to less restriction ,
Got 2klm a lt better after fitting a Snorkle and removing the plastic spinner on our Rodeo ,,, spinning /swirling the intake air with an after market item like a Hiclone can do NOTHING as they are fitted before the TURBO which would negate any prior swirl..

It really depends on the car methinks. What it is supposed to do is cause a swirling airflow, which in turn is supposed to give a better mix of fuel and air.
This may
well work with carby systems and even some indirect fuel injection systems where the air and fuel mix prior to entering the manifold or cylinder. Even then, it would need to be placed in an optimum location.
However, with direct injection, as used by most newer vehicles, the fuel is injected directly into the combustion chamber. Hence causing a swirl somewhere upstream will have no effect in mixing the fuel air components.
Having said all that, I have seen them, but never used them. Some will claim benefits, but most will not.
As mentioned above, they do have a money back guarantee, so you only have some postage (and time) to lose.

I put one in my Jeep Cherokee 4.0L petrol and reduced "normal" fuel consumption from 15 to 14 Litres / 100 kms - which is not the full %age they claim but it did "appear" to work .. I do monitor my fuel costs very carefully so I know this is accurate .
The new Cherokee CRD is currently running at 10.5 Litres per 100 Kms which is fantastic !! and it only went up to 12 towing the POD

So , some quick maths says that over 20,000 klm you may have used 95 lt less ,and the cost of the hiclone $$$$ compared to the cost of 95 lt of fuel ???? Sure that your saving was not just a slight lifting of the right foot after sucumbing to the hiclone myth ???

Just to put this in perspective - I log my fuel consumption every tank full in a program I wrote as part of my personal accounts system ..
The Jeep pre Hicloning was using between 14.6 and 15.6 L/100Km .
over a 18 month period - after inserting the hiclone AND resetting the Jeeps engine computer - which makes it re-learn fuel/air mixture etc - the Lires /100 Km dropped by 1 - 1.5 Litres / 100Km -
I work and my main travelling is 90 Kms per day to and from work over the same boring old highways .. I do drive carefully but did not as far as I can tell "take my foot off " because I had the hiclone in ..
So I still maintain it "sortof" worked but not to the extent claimed by the manufacturer and I guess I didnt save much at all .

I dont have a hiclone but i drive around 90 on the highway and i am a lot less fatigued and use a lot less fuel . While driving around town i drive my corolla .

Working on their theory that they save 20% of fuel go the whole hog Fit 6 and tow a trailer to store the fuel it will spew out.
The use of a Hiclone is like when u go to the Doctor with a headache and he gives you some sugar pills, they dont work but cos u took them u feel better..
Car probably goes better cos your wallet is lighter
As stated Cruisers already have a similar thing in them and they actually breathe better without it. I took
mine out and fitted a 90mm polypipe thru the inner guard and it breathes even better.
