Hi,
I know its only early in the touring season, but has any one been to Cape Leveque with a caravan in tow....200 series pulling a Kedron. What is the condition of the road....I'm aware that road/track is pretty ordinary in places. Your feedback would be most welcome........
Regards

Think you'll find that your not permitted to take caravans on that road, Camper trailers yes. Never seen one at Cape Leveque, don't think they allow in the campgrounds, seen one or two at Middle Lagoon,

Cape Leveque camp ground does not allow caravans. There are other places to camp before you get to Cape Leveque that might allow caravans.

Bookings are also required, so it might pay to ask if the "no caravan" policy has changed. I do know that camper trailers are allowed.

As far as the road conditions, it has been sealed from the Beagle Bay turn off to the turn off the Cape Leveque. It might be sealed a bit more by now but that is how it was last year.
The road from Broome to the Beagle Bay turn off was in places good dirt but in other place very ordinary.

Hey Oldfart

Just moved to Darwin after living in Broome for 12 years, no way in the world would i tow a van up there even if you were allowed, not worth the problems and damage you would do to the van...the roads a shocker.

Cheers

Subject to wet weather which the locals say makes the unsealed clay base very slippery you will tow that rig there no problems at all. I was there in August 08. The unsealed section was about 90km from memory and no real challenge in the dry. I saw campervans in the Cape Leveque campground and can see no logical reason a caravan could not be accepted other than the camping areas are small. The place was booked out 14 days ahead. There is a rustic bush campground at Gambanan (spelling??) a few km away. You can day visit the Cape Leveque resort & beaches for $10.

G'day ya oldfart,
took our Topender up to Middle Lagoon in 2007 road condition
was similar to The Cape York road, it's the old story drop tyre pressure and drive to the condition's,
loved Middle Lagoon, booked for one week stayed two,
IMHO Cape Leveque over rated, if I could type with two fingers I'd tell you more, I'm sure others will.

You are allowed caravans in Middle Lagoon and in my opinion a far nicer place to stay than Cape Lavique. You can use that as a base and do a day trip to Cape Lavique. As far as the road goes it obviously changes from week to week but in the dry season I can not see a problem in taking a well made caravan up there providing you drive to the conditions.I will probably be at Middle Lagoon in late June---a great spot/.

Free camping at Quandong point , total bush camping only , had an 18ft Kedron towed by 100 series as a neighbour there last July.

G'day Oldfart
We go to Cape Leveque every year. Firstly, they do not allow caravans but camper trailers and some small pop tops are ok. Secondly, if you want to get a good spot, you need to book ages in advance, we are always booked 2 years in advance. You probably don't need to book that far in advance bu we chase the same beach shelter each time.

Cheers
