l have a cabin tent l am thinking of getting a Coleman procat heater to heat it, l am worried about safety, If l left it at the tent door entrace with the door 1/4 open and have it blowing hot air in with its fan would it be safe and would it heat the tent up or would having it sitting next to an open window be a good idea?
Does anyone use a procat to hear their caravan or large cabin tent?

I've used one to heat the van. It works OK but is a bit bulky when combined with a small gas bottle.
I think it would be safe enough provided you don't sleep with it on or drop clothing too close. It is a flame after all.
cheers

Would it be safe to go to sleep with it on if you had a window open or door half open or would all the hot air just flow out and it would'nt heat the tent up?

I'm not familiar with this heater.
Could you safely drop a cloth on top without it burning?
Does it produce carbon monoxide?
You might need to contact Coleman direct and discuss it with the technical people to be safe.

It burns, so therefore it produces Deadly Carbon Monoxide.
You can't see or smell Carbon Monoxide you just get a little tired fall to sleep and never wake up.
Don't use in unventilated confined spaces.

Speaking of Procat heaters, Ray's Outdoors in WA (they are new here) have the smaller version out at $50 in their current brochure.
At the last EO Gathering at Innaminka I saw one of these put to very good use. It was on the end of a gas bottle and was placed under the person's
camp chair providing a very warm bum on a very cold night.

I've used a Coleman heater in the tent and camper trailer. I put it on about 30-60 minutes before bed, with airflow from door open at floor level and an opposite top window open a little. Once bed time comes, I turn it off about 10 minutes beforehand. Any CO has hopefully dissipated with the door being opened and closed numerous times as we wander in and out (yeah - u get in, then think..hmmm did I lock the car?, is the fridge away, damn must turn the outside light off..now I need the loo again!)
I never run it with anyone in the tent/camper and it's only used to warm the general area before retiring. Makes the blankets, quilt, pjs etc that bit warmer.
It's not the most effective way of using it, but still works in taking the chill off before bed.

They are reasonably safe , if not left unattended , but they put out to little heat to be of much use.
Check out the Little Sun and Ray's knock off unit they have on sale at the moment.
They put out more than double the heat , and have probably a better set of saftey featuers - provided again they are not left unattended.
While they don't have the cat part - in a worse case senario they just run out of fuel in 2 hours anyway and I see this as a saftey plus.

With any gas appliance and heaters, there is a duty off care, with consideration on adequate ventilation.
The procat is Flameless, heater utilising platinum catalytic technology.
I have laid a tissue on the surface and has not caught alight at all.
I would say very safe in that envioment, and especially with kids around.
