a question for the telstra external aerial gurus can i cut the aerial lead and install a plug setup thru the wall of our caravan (similar to a external tv aerial)so that i can get access to the aerial !)without having to drill a permanant hole thru the wall or 2) leave our wireless modem outside when the aerial is connected
will this create to much resistance even with top quality connections

Steve,
don't cut the cable.
Get one of these from most caravan accessory
places.

It's called an Ezy-eye. It allows you to pass the cable through the wall and when you've finished you can plug the ezy-eye.
I've installed one myself. Very easy.
It'll cost you $30.

You can install a cable permanently and use a screw together fitting at the aerial or externally. You will need to protect the end from moisture.
Installed a GME marine NextG aerial permanently. Folds down at the side of the van. Modem is under
seat and all permanently connected up. Put power switch on front of
seat. One of the best things I did after seeing the idea on the RVtravel
forum
