I have an 18 month old Toyota Prado and am seeking some advice in advance of purchasing new tyres. I use it as my only car so it gets lots of city driving and some off road work on weekends and annual holidays (we have just come back from a great tag-along tour through the Victorian Alps and a stone put a small slit through the side wall of the tyre and I have had to replace it so I was wondering if the original tyres sold with the car may not be intended for much off road use. When the time comes, should I just replace the tyres with the original Dunlops that came with the car - or is there a better tyre around - I cant afford to keep two sets of wheels for off road and non-off road so am looking for something that will do for both jobs. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Narelle: if u replacing a full set of tyres u have a very wide selection I run bf goodrich is a excellent tyre with a wide choice of treads from agresive to full highway
However if u are only replacing one u be better off getting a used dunlop with similar amount of wear, remember the Prado is a full time 4wd and we must mantain wheel diameter as close as possible
if u are in Perth,Robbie at Ardross tyres have a good selection of new and used a very reasonable prices and is a really good guy(no...its not my brother)
Happy 4wding

Narelle, i have a Prado also and have Hankook Dynamic A/T 265/75/16. These have been an excellent on road as well as off road tyre for the work ive done. The choice is yours and there is a vast amount of tyres to choose from but for me these have done the job.

Narelle, I have a 98 Gold Cup Prado. It is fitted with 16 X 6 inch alloy wheels standard. Other models have 16 X 7 inch rims. I chose Goodyear Wrangler AT/S 235/70X16. I found that the Prado naturally understeers (especially in the wet) and I fixed that by inflating the tyres to 47psi front and 42psi rear has solved most of the problem. Having said all that, these tyres work well on in the wet and dry, on of off road.
