Hi Group,
I am looking for an alarm system for the GU Patrol.

While I am at it I may as well get a keyless entry and immobiliser too. Looked at the Black Widow system from Strathfield Car Radio, which seemed to fit my needs but the salesman couldn't tell me how the immobiliser works on a diesel motor. So I wasn't prepared to buy it there and then till I asked you guys about it.

Has anyone here got a Black Widow system on their diesel?
Are they good?
Are there better systems for the same cost?

thanks

hi ya wayne

i bought one from the USA via ebay has all the bits u mentioned but also remote start which means u can start the truck before u get in.

it comes with a relay switch which redirects the ignition thru the black box which is where all the electionics are same as an emoberliser.

also if your silly enuff to leave the keys in the ignition and some one drives of u can press the button on the remote which kills the car and sets the alarm off.

its a mannix alarm.
do a search for 'remote start' on www.ebay.com.au

and then use there lnk to there website and have a look you can also email otehr people who have bought one here in oz and ask what they think.

G'day mcgra

Do you have the link for the mannix alarm? And do you know if it'll work with a Turbo Timer? (I am thinking of getting the ARB Turbo Timer.) The remote start thing sounds cool!

Also - roughly how much?

Many thanx in advance. Cheers,
Prado Boy
P.S. Safe to assume it'll work on a TD Prado?

yes it is the one from mannix and it is as they say.

and yes it is as good as they say im very happy with it
they are very good to deal with u get it in about 4 days and it works well.

they do assist if you are unsure with setting it up and give assistance via email if yr unsure.
it wasnt to hard if you have installed a car alarm before you shouldnt have to much trouble

Here is the link for the remote start/alarm gizmo. Very cool indeed. How good would it be to have an alarm to start your car for you at a certain time!

G'day
I have the Blackwidow system in my truck - a diesel troopy (naturally aspirated) - no complaints from me. It is remote central locking and hasn't mucked up for me across some pretty long rough trips.

Only thing - make sure they set it so that it doesn't auto-arm itself. Mine was set like this so while out camping the first weekend it was in it was forever arming itself when all the doors were closed. You can turn this setting off - but the manual had/has one small mistake meaning the instructions for truning off the auto-arm function don't work.

This could be fixed by now of couse.

Cheers

Hi Wayne,
Stick with Strath Rads at least you can go back if it fails.
Also remember in this state n.s.w. it is unlawfull to leave a vehicle with motor running even if it is locked. Also the insurance boys take a dim view if stolen.
Did you enjoy your outback bash after the big feed n the zoo.

Hi Rog,
yeh mate we had a great time. I did mention meeting you and Bruce etc in a previous post. Is there any seafood left in Dubbo these days?? LOL.

I tend to agree with your idea about strathfield rather than an import that may be hard to repair. And i am quite capable of starting my own car with a key. I don't see a use for remote starting. Cheers

hello

it comes with built in turbo timer, also if u use the remote start and someone trys to steal it as soon as they touch the break it cuts out.
also the alarm sounds on yr key ring and u can shut it down remotely.

i have a 60 series with an after market turbo in it and its fine.
