'Swing Away' Aussie Cooking Stand

I'd seen one of these a few years ago and had been looking ever since. While wandering at the Todd Mall market last Sunday week I came across the manufacturer's stand. They are made in Alice Springs.

The unit comprises a stake of 1/2 " reinforcing steel which is hammered into the ground next to your fire.

Wing nuts spin down the threaded shaft and on these rest the cantilever arms to which you affix either a spun steel frying pan, or a steel grill. A second arm supports a billy or camp oven on a chain. The arms allow you to swing the pan/grill/billy away from the fire. The wing nuts let you adjust the height above the fire. The are hooks on the arms for utensils.

The stake, arms, grill and pan weigh less than 8 kg so I was able to bring it home on the plane. It cost $190.

I reckon personally, combining this with a Bedourie and a camp oven, you've got just about the ducks guts in out door cooking.

Any chance you could upload a photo or perhaps share the manufacturers name / contact details?

Hey Gone Bush, We have used the hillbilly set for years. They are excellent quality and work a treat. We have A single stake that goes into the ground. 2 fry pans that slip over it, a wok and a camp oven. We can cook a roast in the camp oven using only a few heat beads on top when in a c'van with no fires. They are brilliant and very light.

Why not try something different, I have been using Firestix for the last few years , they are a simple system, adjustable heat control, frypan, toaster and billy all on at once, packs up into a 50 mm PVC tube and made from stainless steal rod.

I even suspend my Bedourie camp oven as a stew pot or wok for a sir fry.

I made the handle, it has a pair of washers welded on each side and springs outward to stop the Bedourie pivoting, the toaster is a Bedourie lid with a large trivet welded in. it packs under the camp oven taking up very little room.
