long/short motors

Can we get a consensus on what short and long motors are and help me solve an argument. I always thought a short motor was motor sans head and a long motor included a head fitted.

Yep, your right Owen,
Many years ago when one of my V8's threw a leg out of bed, rings were worn or for what ever reason was stuffed, A short motor was the way to go. whether it be an exchange or bought out right.
That way I got to keep the heads, inlet manifold, exhaust manifold and all the bits I had spent good money on, The Bolt On's. It was a lot cheaper to buy it that way and put it together myself.
As Donks said,
check in the quote on what you get. I also use to take the Cam out and Oil pump/pickup as
well. Once I just bought a bare block, because my crank & pistons were good,
the block had a crack in the cylinder wall.
You could order them with what ever you wanted or not.
Depends on how mechanically minded you are and how big your budget is.

Aren't all the 3.0L Neesan diesel engines Short Motors?
Short on reliability;
Short on power;
Short on torque;
blah blah blah.
Interestingly, the use of the word motor is the wrong word for this application. The internal combustion device in your vehicle to provide the primary means of propulsion is an ENGINE.
A motor is a device that takes an external energy source to drive it, like electricity, hydraulic, air, water.
Another Yankee-ism.

Add to that such things as: Petrol, Diesel, Nitrogen Kerosene and many other energy sources also.
Your post has no useful purpose in this thread, other than to stir the pot a bit.

if you can't accept a technical correction and think that my post is 'pot stirring', then do the right thing and use the alert mod function, and let the mods accuse me of 'pot stirring' if that's what you really think, thats there function - NOT YOURS.
Engine - External Combustion, Steam, reciprocating or turbine.
- Internal Combustion, Uses a POL product, (potential energy) to perform work
- Self supporting..
Motor - uses energy made from another source. cannot self support.
