Looking at 2003 Coromal Seka 505 , how much ball weight?

Just a quick question, what do you who are in the know, think of these vans?
Has annexe, battery pack, roof top aircon.
Just wondering does anyone know what is their ball weight?
Would an XTrail tow it? Also looking at upgrading to Ford Falcon.

have a 2004 535 Coromal Excel poptop. The Seka is the upmarket model.
Our is tandem shower/
toilet model. We are extremely happy with it but Coromals tare weights seem to be usually quite a bit understated. Had it weighed when we bought it 2nd hand, tare was stamped as 1140 from memory, was actually 1440. had it upgraded so not a problem, ATM now 2000, I think the ballweight is around 170kg. Tows like a dream.

KenD Just wondering what the proecdure was to get the ATM upgraded.We have a Coromal F400 offroader and there is little extra weight we can put in due to the awnings etc they fitted after it left the factory.

Check the compliance plate for the ATM. This is the maximum legal loaded weight of the van.
The Ball weight when loaded should be around 10% of you actual loaded weight. This loaded weight maybe less than the ATM, but must not exceed it.
The max tow eight of the Falcon is 2300kg with a max ball weight of 230kg.
A WDH must be used, and there maybe a speed restriction depending on the overall weight of the van.
Check the Falcon vehicle handbook. It has a sliding scale re: tow weights and speed.

Yes, thanks for that, I am going back to the dealership today to have a look at the compliance plate.
Doesn't the compliance plate say "empty ball weight" ?
Does this mean when the van is empty and not fully loaded?
Are they accurate? I have read in some forums that they are not?
Any comments would be appreciated thank you.

I have just gone to the dealer, the tow ball weight is not on the compliance plate (salesman & I both looked) but just wanted to report back that he said it was 175 kgs (he calculated the weight by using two weights of the van) which means we cannot even tow it home with the XTrail (tow ball weight 150 kgs, 2007 and onwards tow ball weight 200 kgs) so it is back to the drawing board.
I guess it makes sense because the kitchen is at the front of the van with all the appliances so there will be more weight on the tow ball.

John, re the ATM upgrade. The person I bought from took the van to
Ross Allen Truck Repairs at Caloundra. They did all of the the checks (axle ratings etc.) to see that it could be replated with higher atm, attached a new plate,completed the paperwork and certificates, which I took to Qld transport with the Change Of Ownership papers. Went through without question. I think it cost the him under $200, which he happily paid to get the sale. Have just checked and it was upgraded from 1570 atm, to 2000.
I think we are
well under that anyway, but good to know it is available if needed. If they took it to 2001, we would have needed breakaway breaks, something to remember.

You're right Mate. This happens often in the industry.
Mostly it's the van manufacturer who will increase the ATM a little if pushed or the Tare is shown to be incorrect.
However one needs to look further than the axle load bearing figures and also look at the chassis. The Chassis manufacturers on occasions won't allow any increase in the ATM. Vans like Coromal with their very lightweight chassis may not condone any increase in the ATM even with a
suspension upgrade.
